Chapter 31 The Moonveil #2
“Don’t hold back. Be loud,” Lorik said while driving me into madness again. “We will wake up the whole Nacht Tower,” I said, between my breaths.
“I have an auroric silencing veil around my room. Scream all you want.” He challenged me.
I wrapped my legs around his waist, locking him to me, refusing to let him pull away. Lorik Draventh was mine in that moment, and I was his. I moved my hips to match him, demanding more, demanding all of him.
My moan filled the room, raw with need, with want, with the ache of being taken exactly the way I craved.
I held his gaze. If there was silver in his eyes, I couldn’t see it. Lust had stripped away his
faction and danger alike, leaving only the male I wanted. The male who craved me, hovering on the edge of his own unraveling.
I watched him give in to it, his control slipping as his movements grew stronger, faster, and desperate.
Lorik let out a final, rough sound, low and broken, as he gave in to me. He pushed into me once more, deep and claiming, as if he still weren’t ready to let go. As if he wanted—needed—more.
We stayed like that, foreheads nearly touching, breathing hard, saying nothing. Words weren’t needed.
This wasn’t an ending.
It was only the beginning. I knew this was madness.
This was the beginning of the end. And I didn’t care.
Because no matter how many times I came apart beneath him, I wanted more. More of his hands.
More of his voice.
More of this beautiful, reckless, forbidden body. All night long, I kept choosing him.
Again.
And again.
It was four in the morning, and we were both lying naked on his bed.
Lorik was holding me in his arms, my head resting on his shoulder, and his arms wrapped all over me.
My body fit perfectly into his shape, as if it were made to hold me.
My hand was lying on his chest, softly touching his defined muscles.
“You won’t have any dreams tonight that will haunt you,” Lorik whispered in my ear.
I let myself smile, but he couldn’t see it. My gaze was on my playing fingers on his core. “What do you dream about?” He asked.
“I don’t want to ruin this moment to remember those awful dreams full of flames and dragons,” I said. “But I’ll tell you one day.”
He didn’t ask again, always giving me space when I needed.
“Why do you have an auroric silencing veil over your room?” I asked, a bit scared of the answer.
How many females had he brought here before?
I had never seen him flirting with everyone.
But he was magnificent. I couldn’t believe I was the only one screaming within these walls, which made me instantly jealous.
“I wielded it just for you last time you were here,” he said. “And I kept it for your return. I knew you, and I would end up only one way.”
I looked up and met his eyes. He was smiling for me.
“You want me to really believe you did this for me?” I asked with a mocking voice. Lorik’s expression turned serious at my words. It was clear now that he and Rory were never together. But thinking this was all for me was a bit unbelievable.
“There is no one else,” he said with a flat, serious face, his gaze fixed on mine. “When I tell you something, I always mean it. I will always tell you the truth. You can count on that.”
My eyes widened. I knew it was illogical to believe a naked Moonveil flattering me. Even so, my gut told me he meant it and that he was truthful in everything he said. And still, a flash of jealousy flared in my stomach.
“Not even that one from your romantic bookshelf?” I asked bluntly. “What’s her name, O.S.?”
I knew I had no right to ask him, no right to lurk through his personal belongings, and yet I did. Lorik’s gaze shifted to his desk, then back to me. He knew I had seen the note on that first edition book.
“To my love. O.S.”
His control was absolute; he didn’t show anger or frustration, not even nervousness for being caught lying.
“There isn’t anyone else,” he said softly, touching my cheek softly. “That note means nothing right now.”
Lorik’s words landed warm and cold at the same time in my chest. I wanted to know more, understand more, but his words sounded final. Lorik wasn’t going to share more.
And if there had been someone before, it wasn’t my place to claim it. We were never meant to be anything, anyway.
“You should rest,” Lorik suggested.
And right there, I just closed my eyes for the first time in a long time, and I fell asleep almost instantly.
I woke up to bright light covering my face.
It must be around mid-morning. I was lucky it was Sunday, and my friends wouldn’t worry about me since they would all be sleeping in.
My hand was on Lorik’s bare chest, and my head on his shoulder.
My naked body wrapped around him. I slowly sat up on the bed and saw the naked Moonveil lying next to me. He was still asleep.
As much as I had the best night of my life, I had to escape him. This was so very wrong. The want for him clearly clouded my judgment.
I stood up quietly and took my pajama pants and my broken shirt from the floor. I wore them as I walked to the door. I grabbed the handle and twisted it slowly so as not to wake Lorik.
“Leaving already?” Lorik whispered into my ear. He had portaled himself right behind me already. “It’s becoming common for you to sneak out of my room in the morning.”
“I… I need to leave.” I said, my voice breaking with the feeling again of him behind me. “This is… so wrong. You are a Moonveil.”
“You want me, as much as I do,” he said, kissing me on my neck. The center of me was heating again.
“This was just sex,” I said, cut and dry.
Lorik grabbed me by my hips and turned me around. My back pressed to the door, his gaze right above me, our foreheads almost touching.
“Now tell that to me again, looking at me,” he challenged me.
My lips parted, almost touching his. I stayed there for just a moment, unable to repeat the exact words. So I murmured instead: “This can only be a one-time thing.”
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. With those words, he knew exactly what I
meant. The line of lust and love was too fine to gamble on sex with the other faction. Your mind and sanity were at risk, plus the weight of the justice of the queen and her court.
“I told you I would never do anything that would harm you.” He finally said. “If I fall for you, you cannot help me escape the curse,” I said firmly.
“How do you know you haven’t fallen for me already?” Lorik responded, brushing his lips against mine.
“You think that much of you?” I teased.
“Just ask yourself, if we didn’t live on an island with so many rules and curses, would you choose me?” Lorik challenged. His expression was flat and serious.
I couldn’t help but widen my eyes ever so slightly. But he noticed, he always did. A smirk pulled out of his mouth as if he were savoring a win.
“I told you I was not going to stay away from you anymore,” he said while opening a portal next to us. “And I plan to keep my word.”
I stood silent, but I didn’t flinch. My eyes were still locked with his. “You wanted to leave. Then leave,” Lorik said. “Just take my portal.”
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the portal leading to a deep area in the library. That was probably smarter than walking the Nacht Tower with shredded clothing.
I turned around, and before jumping into the portal, I heard him whisper in my ear. “I’ll see you at the Solstice celebration. I won’t be here this week.”
“Don’t bother bringing any roses,” I said with a grin he couldn’t see. And then, I jumped through his portal.
