Chapter 9 Marfil #3
Still standing outside the taxi, I saw that it was said father calling. That couldn’t mean anything good.
I looked at Sebastian, who stared back as coldly as a marble statue. Nothing.
I got in the car as I answered the phone. “Hi, Dad, how are you?”
Sebastian closed the door behind me and got into the front passenger seat.
“What the hell are you playing at?” my father shouted from the other end of the line.
I remained silent.
“Listen carefully, young lady, you’re going to do exactly what Sebastian tells you, or I swear to God, I’ll lock you up in this house tomorrow and you won’t so much as see the light of day.
I have more than twenty men working on your kidnapping, and you can think of nothing better to do than go prancing around the most dangerous part of the city? What the hell is wrong with you?!”
“But Dad…”
“But nothing, dammit!” he shouted so loud that I started to shake.
My eyes met Sebastian’s in the rearview mirror, and my mind went black.
“I have a thousand problems right now to have to add being worried about you. Do not give me another reason to call you again!” He hung up before I could say anything else.
I lowered my hand and looked at the blank cell phone screen.
Sebastian and I didn’t exchange a single word the entire ride back home, and I didn’t even attempt to pay for the car when it stopped at the entrance to my apartment building. Let him pay for it!
I jumped out of the car before it had even fully stopped, but I didn’t care; all I wanted was to get as far away from Sebastian as this ridiculous situation would permit.
I greeted Norman with a slight nod, no smiles that night, and got into the elevator without waiting for Sebastian.
I entered my apartment, still fuming. I don’t often get mad, being a woman who preferred to talk more than anything else, but I felt betrayed. To make matters worse, it was by someone I whose presence I was beginning to like more than I would ever admit, which only further complicated things.
My idea had been to lock myself in my bedroom, but I didn’t. Instead, I waited, arms crossed, for him to enter the apartment. When he walked in—so tall, so handsome, so mysterious that I wanted to shake him—my blood began to boil at what he had done.
“I know you’re mad, but it was necessary.”
“It’s never necessary to call my father!” I shouted, his words stoking the fire blazing inside me.
“It is when you won’t listen to what I say and instead choose to do whatever you want,” he replied, taking off his jacket and hanging it on the coat rack beside the door.
“Those classes aren’t for me; they’re for those little girls!”
“You can restart them once things have calmed down. For the time being, I can’t guarantee your safety in that part of town.”
“Well, then I want a different bodyguard, someone better than you!”
Sebastian clenched his jaw. I’d hurt his pride, and I loved it. “You’re behaving like a spoiled child.”
His words only made me more furious. I suddenly felt so hot that I ripped off my sweatshirt and tossed it onto the couch as I stepped closer, pointing my index finger in his face. “I don’t plan on letting those girls down, not for you and not for—”
He cut me off, grabbing my finger and spinning me around, pressing my back against his chest. His arm encircled my waist, and his other hand gripped me by the neck.
“Two more seconds and you’d be dead if I wanted you to be,” he said quietly into my ear.
My breathing was agitated, not only from the surprise of finding myself trapped against his body, but because every part of my anatomy was in contact with his.
His arm was right under my breasts, covered only by the black leotard I was wearing that afternoon.
I didn’t even need to check to know that my nipples had just gone hard of their own accord, making my excitement evident.
I tried to pull away, but he gripped me tighter.
“You should thank your lucky stars it’s me that’s here protecting you and not someone else.
” His voice, deeper than normal, caused every hair on my body to stand on end.
He then gripped my neck tighter, almost cutting off my breathing.
“And next time you wait for me before coming up to the apartment.” His lips brushed the sensitive skin of my ear, and I froze.
I didn’t know how to feel. I was so vulnerable in that position, angry over what he’d done, but at the same time, I didn’t want him to ever let me go.
Then, Lili’s face flashed in my mind, followed by the faces of the other girls. I wasn’t going to be able to continue giving them classes, and it was all his fault.
“Let me go,” I hissed into his fingers that were still cupping my chin.
He did as I asked and, so that he wouldn’t further see how aroused I was by his tight embrace and his whispered words against my skin, I rushed to my room, slamming the door behind me. Once inside, I leaned against the wall and slid down to the rug.
I’d just had a dose of what would soon become the most addictive drug in history… at least for me.
