Chapter 3

CLARA

The music was barely audible over the pounding of my pulse, but in a good way. I hadn't necessarily intended to go through with Daisy's suggestion of hooking up with someone in order to help get over Clemmy, but now that I was here, I was starting to think that it might be a good idea.

The lights illuminated Hel's face, only drawing attention to how breathtakingly beautiful she was.

I wasn't the only one to notice. A lot of people stopped to look at her as she swayed with the music, which wasn't a huge surprise when she'd caught my attention as soon as I'd entered the room.

I'd just never in my right mind thought there would be a chance I could go home with a woman like her, even if I had approached her in the bar.

I'd expected her to brush me off or tell me that she wasn't interested in women.

I hadn't expected to end up dancing with her.

I was cute, I knew that much, but I was still a little surprised that someone who looked like her was interested in me.

Her thumb brushed against the small sliver of skin where my shirt had come untucked, sending a pleasant shiver through me and making me wonder what it would feel like to have her touch other parts of me.

Hel turned me around so that my back was to her and her hand drifted across my stomach, pulling me closer to her. Everywhere our bodies touched made me crave more. And we were still fully dressed in a room full of other people.

And I barely cared.

She leaned in, her breath tickling against the shell of my ear. "I can make you forget your ex," she murmured, her voice low and full of promise.

"How are you going to do that?" There was no stopping the breathiness in my voice, which I did nothing to hide. She was doing a good job of making me forget Clemmy as it was, I'd barely thought about her since approaching Hel at the bar.

Even though I couldn't see her, I could feel her smile. She leaned in and kissed the nape of my neck just below my ear.

I turned around, bringing me so close to her that I could feel her breath fanning against my lips. The whole world faded away around us as she became the only thing I could focus on, especially when she touched my hip, the weight of her hand feeling like it burned through my clothing.

She leaned in and pressed her lips against mine, kissing me softly at first, but increasing the pressure after a moment. I wrapped my arms around her in response, pulling her tighter against me as I deepened the kiss.

Her lips were soft and inviting, full of unspoken promises of the pleasure they could bring. Desire flared to life within me and burned away the simple attraction I'd felt towards her before this, and I found myself hungry for more.

I broke the kiss, the urge to do more right here on the dance floor stronger than I expected it to be. I wasn't into that kind of thing, but a kiss like that could make me think that I was, even if it was just for a moment.

Hel leaned in and kissed me again, nipping at my bottom lip and making me groan into the kiss.

"Come home with me," she whispered, the suggestion so tantalising that there really was only one answer, and every part of me agreed.

"Yes." It was the only word either of us needed me to say.

She pulled back and took my hand.

"I need to message my cousin first," I said quickly. Daisy had made it clear that this was okay, but I still needed to tell her I was going.

"Of course." Hel flashed me a smile and dropped my hand.

I pulled my phone out of my bag and tapped a quick message to Daisy before hitting send.

"You should message her once we get to mine too, so she knows your location," Hel said.

I nodded, glad that she was thinking straight, because I certainly wasn't. I wanted her hands on me again, and preferably sooner rather than later.
