Chapter 16

One year later

Lissa I sat in the passenger seat of the fire engine with Thorne tearing down the street. The emergency we were headed to happened to be two blocks over from where Thorne broke his ankle a year ago.

“You nervous about being so close to where you broke your ankle?” I squeezed his leg.

He grinned at me and honked the horn at the cars refusing to move. “Never. Best day of my life.”

“Best day?”

“Yeah. It led me to you. The real you.”

“Right. The real me.” I laughed.

He picked up my hand and kissed the silicone ring he’d put on my finger a month ago. “I can’t wait to marry you.” He pulled up to the location and turned to me. “I love you, firecracker.”

I gave him a peck on the lips. “I love you, too. Let’s go put out a fire.”
