Duncan's Solace (An Elite Protection Agency #4)
Chapter 1
Alright, this might have been a mistake.
Solace Davidson stared off across the darkened bedroom and tried her best to convince herself of that fact.
Unfortunately, thinking it and believing it were two different things.
But, seriously, how could something so wonderful—so beautiful—have been a mistake?
She certainly hadn’t thought of it as a mistake throughout the night.
She glanced toward the beside clock and her heart sank at the white numbers giving the time. Daylight would be coming soon.
And then what?
Even if he had called her angel.
Right. He’s still your boss, silly woman.
Her boss, Duncan Sheppard—Colonel Duncan Sheppard. Her boss, who had just given her the best sexual experience of her life.
Twice.
Who knew sex against a wall could be so…so…
A little shimmy coursed over her at how he’d pressed her back against that unforgiving surface. She’d loved it. But not as much as the way he’d pulled her thong aside and driven into her with one long, hard, mind-numbing stroke.
She’d been left with no choice but to wrap her arms and legs around him, then hang on as he’d fucked her senseless.
The way he’d nearly driven her into the wall with each thrust, while his piercing, pale blue eyes had stared straight into hers in that commanding way of his, was a memory she wouldn’t soon forget.
And call her crazy, but the way he’d taken control—controlling her pleasure until she’d been unable to think—was something she’d never thought she’d allow. But she’d wholeheartedly taken it all, relishing every second until she’d broken apart in his hold.
In that moment, she’d closed her eyes on the perfect agony of la petite mort—the little death—while he’d groaned out his own climax, pumping and filling her with his hot release.
But he hadn’t been finished.
“I want you in my bed, angel,” he’d rumbled out. “Now.”
And that had been a different kind of sex.
Not the driving, claiming sex he’d given her in the living room.
This had been slow, with gentle kisses, whispered words of praise, and heartbreaking lovemaking that even now her body and soul had still yet to fully recover from.
The kind where two people connect on more than just the physical plain. It was?—
“Haaa…” Duncan’s deep, contented sigh thrummed over her senses, raising goosebumps over her naked flesh and hardening her nipples.
How does he do it?
Even in his sleep, he managed to arouse her.
And since she had no idea how deep of a sleeper he might be, she did her best not to shimmy again.
Something that was made even more difficult when a deep inhale expanded his chest pressing into her back, followed by a long exhale that found him pulling her more firmly into his body.
She held her breath to keep from moaning, which was easier said than done. How could she control something like that, when his muscled arm banded around her waist, keeping her in a firm hold, and his heat seeped under her skin?
And there went another shimmy.
I have no idea what to do.
“Mmm…” Duncan’s arm tightened even more, dragging her further into his body until they were basically seared to each other. “Cold?”
His sleep-roughened voice sent her pulse racing—that and his thickening cock. His hot breath puffing against her neck where he nuzzled his nose doubled it. And damned if it didn’t have her getting all wet and bothered again.
“Maybe a little,” she whispered. Not really, but she needed to explain away her pebbling flesh and the shimmies.
“Can’t have that,” he murmured, turning her onto her back, then pulling her almost completely underneath his furnace-like body.
Hints of pale, predawn light filtering through the windows, brought into relief a face she’d held dear for far longer than she should have.
It was a face she finally had the right to touch.
So, she did, tracing her fingers over his usually frowning brow and mouth.
She seldom saw him grin like this. Most of the time, his face had a stern, serious appearance.
Commanding.
Could be because he’s your boss.
Her boss with a definite hard-on searing her thigh.
“Now,” he said low, while his fingers at her waist traced small circles over her skin, each little swirl moving lower and lower…
Her hips lifted into his touch. She’d had no intention of encouraging him, but her body obviously had other ideas. And all that squirming around was rewarded when his wandering fingers slid through her folds.
“Mmm… Duncan.” She helplessly moved where his fingers brushed over her clit, then closed her eyes at the sensation of them filling her.
Oh…
This wasn’t helping her need to figure out what to do. Neither was the way his mouth went on its own journey to her breast.
“What should we do about that?” he whispered around her nipple, before his tongue circled it, then flicked the distended tip.
“I’m, uhh…”
Dear heavens, the man’s mouth. If it was this talented here, how much more so would it be in other places. She’d yet to find that out.
“Umm… Not sure,” she breathed out, unable to think with the dual assault at her nipple and pussy. How could those little nibbles reach all the way to her clit? “What do you, uh, ah, suggest?”
“I can’t let you get a chill,” he murmured, lifting his head, his eyes holding hers, while his fingers left her core and one of his knees went between her legs—parting them. Her heart rate ramped up at where this was going. “So, I suggest you let me warm you up.”
His body shifted, covering hers, while his forearms bracketed her head and he stared into her eyes. Even in the faint light, they saw so much.
Did they see what she could never allow him to know? She hoped not. It would only lead to heartache for her and discomfort for him when whatever this was ended.
“Yes, sir,” she moaned, as his welcome weight settled between her spread thighs. It didn’t matter what her own truth might be. Only Duncan mattered. Only having this one stolen night with him.
Tomorrow would take care of itself.
Somehow.
So, whatever worry might be rearing its ugly head, she banished it to the back of her mind. It had no place here. Not in Duncan’s bed. And certainly not in the exquisite feeling when his cock found her center and burrowed deep.
“Solace,” he groaned, blanketing her completely. Keeping her warm—just as he’d promised—as she wound her arms around his neck and kept him for herself. Staving off the cold.
If only for a little while.
It’s what she told herself as his kisses stole her breath and their bodies moved in time with each other.
It’s what she told herself while her heart nearly burst with the need to say the one thing she’d held in for years.
I love you.
