Chapter 8 #2

Then, she shifted her hips, pushing against his head so that it parted her lips slightly, and he understood. He kissed her first, slow and sweet, his lips tight against hers, as if sealing a vow of their shared desire.

Her heart thundered in her breast. With impeccable care, he pressed forward, his length a forge of heat seeking sanctuary.

She heard him groan loudly as he tenderly sheathed himself within her welcoming warmth.

It was a guttural utterance of carnal torment and bliss, marking the irrevocable claiming of her innocence.

The initial feeling was a piercing, bright pain, a dagger that stretched her to fullness, drawing a gasp out of her.

She tightened her grip on him, her nails digging into the corded muscles that flexed beneath her touch, anchoring her against the pain.

He froze and she noticed his face was contorted with the effort not to move, every sinew in his powerful body taut as a bowstring drawn to its limit.

Now it was his breath that came in ragged bursts, a testament to the iron will he exerted to grant her this mercy. She knew, in that suspended instant, that he was allowing her to grow accustomed to the feel of him, to the intoxicating contact that bound him inside her, body to body.

She took a shaky breath, then another and another, willing the tension from her limbs like mist dissipating under the morning sun. Little by little, she relaxed, the pain ebbing away as her body yielded to his presence.

Now, she could only feel him inside her, thick and slick and perfect, a wholeness, a completion that stirred something primal within her depths.

The ache had completely faded, replaced by a profound feeling of fullness, of rightness, as if the fates themselves had conspired to weave their essences together in this chamber.

Finally, she pressed her hips up toward him in silent invitation, a subtle arch that spoke volumes of her burgeoning certainty and hunger. He did not move.

“Please,” she said, pulling him closer, deeper, wrapping her legs around his waist, her heels pressing into the firm planes of his back.

He groaned from the movement, burying his face in the hollow of her neck. Emboldened, she tilted her hips away, releasing him slightly, granting him leave to claim what was now his, to return to her.

He began to move then, slowly, gently, each withdrawal and return a blissful silken glide.

The first retreat was measured, deliberate, as though he feared to break her, yet the slow drag of him along her inner walls sparked renewed pleasure racing through her veins.

When he pressed forward again, filling her once more to the hilt, the sensation was splendid.

Fullness made perfect, him making her his home.

Verity’s breath caught on a soft, involuntary sound, half sigh, half plea.

With each measured thrust the rhythm deepened, grew surer.

He withdrew almost entirely, leaving her achingly empty, only to sink back inside with a languid roll of his hips that made her toes curl against the small of his back.

The friction was glorious, every inch of him stroking places inside her she had never known existed.

Pleasure built in slow, inexorable waves, a tide rising with each measured advance and retreat, each touch joining them more completely than words ever could.

She clung to him, her hands roaming the broad expanse of his shoulders, tracing the flex and shift of muscle beneath his skin. She loved it when he buried himself fully, her moans blooming against the hollow of his throat each time he seated himself to the root.

She reveled in the heat of him, in the raw, unapologetic maleness that enveloped her. He was gentle even as his passion mounted, every movement controlled, as though she were something infinitely precious.

He pulled his head back just enough to watch her face in the firelight.

His eyes, dark with desire, held hers without flinching.

The intimacy of that gaze was almost more devastating than the slow, deep rhythm of his length inside hers.

He studied her as though wanting to know how she felt through every flicker of expression, every parted breath, every flutter of her lashes.

Then, without breaking the cadence of his thrusts, he reached between them.

His long fingers found her sensitive spot with unerring precision, the pad of his thumb circling in slow strokes that matched the glide of his hips.

The dual sensation was devastating. Each press of his thumb against that swollen bud sent lightning arcing through her core, while each deep thrust stretched and filled her, stroking hidden places that made her inner walls flutter around him in helpless response.

Ecstasy swelled within her, a bright, unbearable pleasure threatening to overwhelm her senses and sweep her away into oblivion. Her hips rose to meet his in helpless little jerks. She felt herself unraveling, thread by silken thread, every nerve alight, every muscle taut with anticipation.

Lucien’s breathing had grown rougher, more ragged, yet he never faltered in his tender rhythm.

He leaned down to capture her mouth in a kiss that was both fierce and achingly gentle, swallowing the soft whimpers that spilled from her lips.

His thumb never ceased its relentless circling, his hips never ceased their slow, deep claiming.

She could feel the tension tightening inside him too, the tremor in his shoulders, the subtle hitch in his breath each time he sank fully home.

“Lucien—” His name emerged through her voice as a broken plea, a prayer.

He answered with a low, guttural groan against her throat, his thumb pressing harder, circling faster, his thrusts growing fractionally more insistent.

The pleasure crested higher, higher, until she hovered on the very edge, trembling, suspended in a moment of delighted torment.

And then it hit her. Ecstasy like summer lightning, brilliant and blinding.

Her body clenched around him in rhythmic spasms, milking him with desperate pulses as release swept her away.

She cried out, the sound raw and unrestrained, her head falling back against the rug as stars burst behind her closed lids.

Wave after wave of pleasure crashed over her, through her, until she was nothing but sensation, nothing but the exquisite, shattering joy of being utterly claimed.

That pushed him over the edge. His rhythm faltered as all his restraint unraveled. He folded under the sound of her moans, at the intensity of her squeezing him tight.

With a desperate groan that seemed torn from the depths of his soul, he drew back just in time, withdrawing from her warmth and wetness.

He spent himself in a hot, silvery spill across her belly, the heat of it shocking and wonderful against her skin, a visceral mark of his possession made bright from the fire’s glow.

For a second, his body trembled above her, muscles quivering in the aftermath, and then he collapsed beside her, delicately drawing her into his arms with a possessiveness she hoped she had not imagined.

They were both slightly damp with sweat, their breaths slowing, both of them reeling from the force of what had just occurred between them.

Sprawled half on top of him, their bodies tangled, she took a breath and shook off his embrace.

His arms gave way, and she heaved away from him, landing at first on her side, then rolling onto her back.

In that hushed interlude, Verity felt the weight of their union settle upon her.

Her past in Somerset, with its secrets and sorrows, seemed distant now, eclipsed by the profound connection she was wholly absorbed in.

Yet even in this bliss, a whisper of foreboding lingered in her mind.

What would happen next? What did he want?

What was he thinking? Was she his mistress despite all her admonishments to the contrary?
