Chapter 5 Roxy
Who was this man?
The husband I left three years ago was still dressing like a college frat boy, refusing to graduate from vintage concert tees and second-hand suits that were slightly too big or small but never his actual size.
But tonight, Liam took my breath away. There was no other way to put it.
He wore a tailored black shirt without a tie, which hinted at a deliberate, stylistic choice.
The sleeves were pushed back, showing off some new tattoos I hadn’t seen before.
His right forearm bore a rippling pattern of scales, like a snake or a dragon.
The left was decorated in some sort of floral design.
And his slacks actually fit, hugging the contours of his hips and ass, which were well developed by the way. Had he been working out?
I tried not to stare from across the table, but I couldn’t resist sneaking a few perks as we studied our menus.
Now, I could definitely tell he’s been working out.
His shirt was stretched across a broad chest, across his biceps.
His hair was slightly overgrown, which I knew he preferred.
But he’d actually combed it, put some order to it.
When I saw the Rolex on his wrist, I was about ready to lose my mind. “Okay, what exactly is going on?”
“What?” Liam said, feigning perfect innocence.
“Since when can you afford a Rolex and…and a sense of style?” I said, gesturing vaguely at him.
Liam grinned shyly. “What was wrong with my style before?”
“Nothing. But you’ve changed. That’s all I’m trying to say.”
Liam smirked. “You’re just trying to avoid saying I was right.”
“Excuse me?”
“All the late nights and extra favors I was putting in? That was just paying my dues. I moved up in the organization, just like I knew I would. The money started getting better. And better.”
I chewed my lip, finally remembering how we used to bicker about this issue in particular.
I hated that Liam had so many family obligations, especially when we were newlyweds.
I wanted him to stop working for random family businesses.
Stop offering to provide security for various shady events.
Just stop and find something else that was worth his time.
Work towards a career, build a real future.
But he always assured me that this was just how it worked.
The youngsters always earned their place first. It was the family law.
To be honest, I thought it was all just a way to keep Liam compliant.
“What have you been up to, Roxy?” Liam said.
After the revelation about his success, It seemed kind of like a barb. “I’ve been exploring a lot of career paths. Just figuring things out. It’s been great.”
Liam smirked in a condescending way, which was irritating enough to make my nostrils flare.
“Well congratulations. It definitely sounds like it was worth it. Do you mind if I order for us?”
I bared my teeth. “Go right ahead.”
Liam ordered the classics, eggplant parmesan, linguine in clam sauce, and a ribeye cooked to medium. He let me pick out the wine. After some deliberation, I pointed to the most expensive bottle of red on the list, a twenty-nine-hundred dollar bottle of Pinot Noir.
“A fine choice, madame,” the waiter said.
“That wasn’t a test was it? Because that bottle will barely make a dent in my wallet.”
“If you’re trying to make yourself sound like a douche,” I paused and smiled for dramatic effect, “congratulations“
“I can’t wait to fuck your brains out later.”
My nostrils were flaring again. “Me neither. I’m going to grind that dick down into a toothpick.”
“Please do. I’ll grab your hair and pull your head back while you do it.”
The waiter returned and opened the wine. He poured two glasses, which we raised to each other.
“To one last ride around the block,” Liam said.
I drank. The sweetness caught me so off-guard that I nearly choked.
“This is really fucking good,” I said.
“Drink as much as you want. Tonight’s on me.”
* * *
It was hard to eat with my stomach roiling like a ship at sea, but I managed to try a few bites of everything. Then, Liam paid the bill and escorted me through the restaurant. His hands were already roaming, holding onto my hips and waist as he steered me through the tables.
“Everyone’s staring at you,” he whispered. “But I'm the one who gets to take you home.”
Damn. I’d almost forgotten how good Liam was at that. He knew how to make a woman feel wanted. Desired. If there was even a hint of lust, he could stoke it into a great flame with just a few sweet words, whispered in that rich, gravelly voice of his.
Liam’s driver picked us up in a black SUV. We sat side by side in the second row. Liam’s hand slid shamelessly up my dress. Then we arrived at some luxury apartment tower, and I had to pause and take a moment to really appreciate that sometimes life was just unfair.
Back when we were first married, we lived in a duplex near the university, renting from the widower who lived in the other unit. Today, Liam lived in Sky Loft Tower, a glass structure near the river. I got to see it from twelve stories above, standing at the very edge of Liam’s balcony.
“Fine. You win, Liam,” I said, shaking my head. “I have to say, I’m really impressed.”
“What’s my prize?” Liam pressed. He came up behind me, pressing his torso against my back.
I turned around to look at him face-to-face. “Five seconds with my mouth.”
“Right here on the balcony?” He said it like it was a challenge.
“Sure. Why not?”
Liam searched my gaze, his expression unreadable. Then, without saying another word, he began unbuckling his belt. His breaths grew louder and shorter as I hiked up my dress and got down on my knees.
I was at the perfect level to watch his hand disappear into his boxers, pulling out his stiff cock. Hello. It’s been a while. My stomach pulled in, reacting to an unexpected wave of lust.
His voice broke when I swallowed his length. “Oh Roxy.” He caressed my hair as I moved my lips up and down along his shaft, my body awakening to his familiar taste. He was always like this. Easily broken, easily tamed, with just a few clever twists of the tongue.
When his five seconds were up, I pulled away and tilted my head back to look at his face.
“Fuck, baby. What can I do to make you do that again?”
“You can beg. On your knees.”
We effectively switched places, and Liam pushed up my skirt and pulled my lace thong to the side.
“Please,” he whispered before running his tongue up my slit. “Please let me do this.”
I gasped as he licked my clit and lapped up my juices, pausing only briefly to beg me to please come in his mouth.
“It’s been five seconds,” I began, barely able to catch my breath.
“Ah-ah. We didn’t agree on a time limit for this one. I don’t make the rules.”
I gasped as he pushed two fingers into my slick pussy. His tongue was back on my clit, his eyes hooded.
I didn’t want to come in his mouth. I was selfish, and I wanted to make him work a little harder for it. But Liam knew exactly the right buttons to push. When he started pumping his fingers in time to the rhythmic flicks of his tongue, I was putty in his hands.
I came into his mouth, just as he wanted. I held onto the railing as my body shuddered.
“That’s only the first one,” Liam said.
“What do you mean?”
Liam grabbed me and pushed me back into the room.
“This is our last night so I’m making it count.
” He unzipped my dress and wrenched it off of me.
Leaving me naked in just my thong only for a few minutes, until he simply tore those off me, too.
“I’m going to see how many times I can make you come tonight. Consider it a personal challenge.”
“Challenge accepted,” I said, raising my chin. “I’ll also see how many times I can get you to come tonight.”
“Should we make a friendly wager, then?”
As distracted as I was, I regarded him suspiciously.
“Whoever makes their partner come more in one night wins. If you win, you get your divorce.”
I was fine with that. “And what if you win?”
“If I win, you agree to try marriage counseling.”
I laughed at him. There was just no way he was winning this one.
“Game on,” I said, extending my hand.
