I. Getting to Campus
(A Unique Experience)
Following your flight, you will join the ranks of the Traumzeugers, the world’s bravest explorers including, astronauts, test pilots, moon walkers, mountaineers, deep sea divers, and Nobel-prize-winning researchers.
THE LUFTZEUG/TRAUMZEUG
The Luftzeug/Traumzeug is both an air tool (Luftzeug) and a dream tool (Traumzeug). There is no way to mentally prepare for this flight.
To see the sketch of the Bear Towne University Luftzeug/Traumzeug, pick up a print edition (which contains the full artwork) of The Bear Towne University Handbook by C.M. McCoy!
There are several differences between our university jet and commercial flight, and students will do well to remember these tips:
Do not approach the flight crew. Some may be maltempered and react impolitely.
The flight crew are not traditional flight attendants, and they are not trained in hospitality.
Nor are they friendly. They have one job, and that is to load and operate the Luftzeug/Traumzeug.
They will deliver you, alive, through the airspace and dreamspace and into The Middle of Nowhere.
Hold on to your clothes.
PREPARING FOR YOUR FLIGHT
All incoming ParaScience freshmen are REQUIRED to complete their journey to the university via Luftzeug and attend ParaScience 101, An Introduction, which is a 3-credit course conducted on board. You are advised not to panic and to hold all questions until your arrival on campus.
Flights depart from Frankfurt, Moscow, and Pittsburgh approximately one week prior to the start of the semester. Your Bear Towne University welcome packet will arrive to you in the mail and contain your personal travel itinerary and transportation instructions.
You MUST collect your boarding pass from the Bear Towne kiosk at your departure airport, personally, to receive your initiation charge. Finally, do not stare at your fellow passengers.
WHAT TO PACK: YOUR CARRY-ON
The Luftzeug can be quite drafty, and passengers should wear or bring warm clothes and sturdy shoes. Ear protection and eye protection are available on board, under your seat, with the activation switch located in the button bank above each seat. Life jackets will be provided.
We’re proud to offer our freshmen a choice of boxed meals, tailored to their digestive needs. Hot coffee and tea as well as water and Ooze are available at the self-service galley throughout the flight.
There are no restrictions on the size, weight, or number of your carry-on items, and no restrictions on liquids. Students may bring their own food and drink as long as that food or drink is not the product of the slaughter of a human or human-like non-human.
Bear in mind you may have the opportunity to collect your carry-on items when you disembark. Rest assured any items abandoned on board will be returned to you with your checked baggage.
Students should pack the following WITH their carry-on items:
Ground pad, sleeping bag, and pillow
Large towel or robe
Dry change of clothes
Spare shoes
