MICAH #2
“The fangirls are getting more aggressive toward her,” I said, glaring at Parker. “The sprinklers the other week, I have to admit, was kind of brilliant. They’re sure coming up with interesting ways to keep you guys from hanging out with her.”
“Like you fucking care, you would just love it if we all walked away from her. It would be so much easier for you if we just ignored the fact that Synergy was here at school,” Parker growled.
I could feel my blood begin to boil at his words.
He didn’t get it at all. How dare he assume to know how I was feeling?
None of them understood what it meant to lose people they loved and cared about.
How could they possibly understand that letting Lailah into our lives could be the end of everything?
“That’s quite enough, Parker. Can we please stay on topic?
” Beth said, frowning at us both. “I would have agreed that we need to back off, but with the increase of demon activity, we can’t leave her vulnerable.
It seems that bringing her into the fold sooner rather than later would be the best course. ”
“Can we wait till next week?” Brayden asked. “Just till after the Halloween party. I would like to let her have one last normal college experience before we destroy her whole world.”
Beth contemplated that, tapping her finger on her chin.
I wanted to tell Brayden that he was being a hopeless romantic, but I also saw his point.
When she was told about what she really was, it would change her life forever.
As much as I hated the idea of being bound to her forever, I didn’t want her to hurt when the life she knew crumbled around her.
I experienced that when my parents died, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
Although I have to admit, seeing her get pissed at me when I pushed her buttons gave me hope that she wouldn’t be a complete lamb to the slaughter.
“If you think she can make it to the end of the week without further incident, I will agree to wait. With one condition, though. You all need to make yourselves scarce for the rest of the week. We need to keep her under control until we can get her somewhere safe for her to experience her full power,” Beth said, looking each one of us in the eye.
“Not a problem for me,” I said. Parker rolled his eyes at me, and I flipped him off.
“I already needed to cancel with Lailah for our Thursday session, so I will just add on tomorrow’s as well,” Hudson said.
“My dad has been wanting me to take a job that will take me out of town till Thursday night, but she still needs to go running. Cami, can you make that happen?” Jay asked.
“God, please tell me you’re not asking me to go running with her? I fucking hate running. What else could we do to help burn off the extra energy?” Cami asked.
“Sex would be an acceptable alternative,” Jay said with a blank face.
Cami choked on her own spit at that answer. “Excuse me?”
“There is no way in hell that I’m going to allow that to happen,” Parker said, storming up to Jay. “Come up with something else.”
“He does make a good point, although research says oral sex uses more energy than standard intercourse. The most energy burned though is actually a make-out session lasting thirty minutes or more,” Hudson said, stunning us all into silence.
“I would hope you’re joking, Hudson, but I’ve known you long enough to know that you’re not,” Brayden said, eyes wide with shock.
I groaned as I pictured Lailah’s perfect mouth going down on me, and her crystal-blue eyes looking up at me as I fisted a handful of her hair.
Just because I didn’t want to be stuck with her for life didn’t mean I was blind.
She was hot. My body temperature began to rise as my heartbeat gained speed.
If I didn’t get those damn innocent eyes out of my mind, I was literally going to combust.
“God damn you, Hudson,” I snarled and stormed out of the room, needing to calm myself down.
I heard someone follow after me and was surprised to find that it was Cami, and not Brayden, who grabbed my arm.
“What do you want, ankle biter?” I said, jerking my arm from her grasp.
Cami put her hands on her hips and looked up at me. “Look, cockwaffle, I get that you might not love the idea of Synergy being a human, but you’re the only one of the guys who hasn’t even given her a chance. Lala is one kick-ass chick who will surprise you if you just took a second to know her.”
“I don’t need to give her a chance or get to know her.
She’s only here to get us to bond to her so she can take over our powers and use us as she sees fit,” I said, disgusted at the idea.
“You don’t have to worry about what she’ll do to you because you're completely human. You don’t have fire shooting out of your hands, setting things on fire when you can’t control it.
You didn’t have to spend five years training your ass off to learn to bend your powers to your will.
I’m one of the only fire Elementi who hasn’t killed one of their instructors by accident.
I can’t allow someone else to fuck this up for me no matter how kick-ass a chick she is. ”
This time when I stormed off, she didn’t stop me, but I could feel the pity in her eyes, like lasers drilling into my back. I couldn’t let Lailah get under my skin, and the best way to do that was to keep the hell away from her.
