LAILAH #4

“Am I dead?”

“No, sweet child, you are very much alive for the first time. The promise has been fulfilled in you, Lailah. We angels chose you to be the light in a dark world. With your help, the Elementi will be able to free the world of the Dark Master’s influence.”

“Why me?” I asked, dumbfounded.

“You are exactly what each of those boys needs in their lives and the same for you. This group of men was never meant to be a group of five, they always needed a sixth to balance them out. With you beside them, great work can be done, the like of which no other blessed Elementi Warriors have done before.”

“I don’t understand any of this, what is happening to me?” I said, feeling like I was going to lose my mind with all the questions I had.

“Trust in them, child, we picked them just as we have picked you. These men will guide you through this. I must send you back now, I have kept you too long, and they grow fearful for you.” The angel reached out and touched my cheek, the same one the demon had scratched.

“The wards must be renewed in order to keep you all safe. I will give you this knowledge so that you may rest easy while you learn. It will not hold them off for long, though, they grow in strength and numbers.”

The angel bent down and placed a kiss on my forehead, sending a spark of energy through me. “Blessing upon you, child, we will see each other again.” With those parting words, the angel thrust me back into my body back in the fields.

“Lailah. Lailah,” someone yelled, shaking me and making me grunt at the abuse.

“Stop, Micah, you’re hurting her,” Brayden said, and the shaking stopped.

I pried an eye open, unsure if I really wanted to wake up just yet.

I saw the guys’ worried faces hovering around me.

I decided that I was just going to have to suck it up and deal with what was happening around me.

I let Micah help me into a sitting position, and then I reached out to Hudson, who pulled me to my feet.

“Fuck, I never want to do that again, it hurts way too much,” I whined, rubbing my temples.

“Yeah, it’s been years since I came into my powers, but I remember what a bitch it was,” Parker said with a grimace.

“We should get you back to the house; the first time your powers show up takes a lot out of you,” Brayden said, resting his hands on my shoulders.

I leaned back into him, welcoming the support. “Unfortunately for me, it’s not quite over yet.”

“What do you mean?” Jay asked.

“We have to fix the wards before the night is over,” I stated.

“How the fuck do you know about that?” Micah demanded.

I smirked at him and the shock on his face. “Had a lovely chat with an angel a moment ago.”

“You’re handling this all surprisingly well. Too well for my liking,” Hudson said, eyeing me.

“A combination of exhaustion and denial is a potent cocktail for dealing with mental breakdowns. Give me a little bit, and I’m sure I’ll be a hysterical puddle on the ground in no time.

” I took a deep breath and held out my hands.

“Now, let's get this over with while I’m still in a delusional state.”

Brayden took my left hand, Hudson my right, and the others followed suit, so we were one large circle. Closing my eyes, I let the information the angel gave me come to the forefront of my thoughts.

“We, the Elementi, ask for blessing on this sacred ground. With fire we burn back the darkness, with spirit we guard the souls of those we protect, with earth we replenish the purity of our lands, and with water and air we cleanse the evils from areas we hold dominion over.” As I spoke, I could feel the flare of power from the corresponding barrier of the element.

“Binding together the powers of the blessed Warriors, I, Synergy, light of the heavens, anoint this land.”

As the words left my mouth, I felt each of the guys’ power shoot into me like arrows into a target.

I held tight to their hands as I fell to my knees under the weight of their energy residing in me.

I swirled it into a little ball, wrapped neatly in my own power, and thrust it into the ground at my feet.

The earth rumbled with our combined power, and the wards began to glow in my mind’s eye, replenished and stronger than they’d ever been.

Done with the task that I was given by the angel, my power drained from me, as did the last bit of strength to hold myself up.

I was lowered to the ground by the guys, and I sat there relearning how to breathe.

Holy shit. I was Synergy, and the five guys I’d been hanging around were the Elementi.

I knew they were real! But that was going to have to wait for another day, I was too tired to even try to process everything.

I felt my body being lifted, and I was carried away somewhere, but I wasn’t worried.

I was with my guys, and they would look after me and protect me.

As the angel said, they were meant for me, but what they didn’t know yet was I was made for them and only them.
