LAILAH #2
I grabbed his hand that was still gripping my arm tightly.
“I think Kayley has been right this whole time. Ms. Tabitha must be spiking her tea. Do we even know if she was really taken to see a doctor? Ms. Tabitha did that as well, then came back with all these new holistic meds for your mother to take. What if she’s using your mom to create this drug?
She’d need your mom for the science behind it, but someone else would have to make it. Who is helping her?”
The tension in the room rose as I looked around the table. Everyone was looking at Hudson with varying looks of apprehension and fear.
“My dad is the other person working with her,” Hudson whispered.
My jaw dropped. “Holy shit.”
“Yeah, that’s one way to put it,” Parker agreed, nodding his head. “So, what do we do now?”
I sat back and looked at the guys around me. This was it; this was why I was finally brought into the world. The Dark Lord was gearing up for something, and we were the only ones that could stop it. Now, we just needed to figure out the game and the end goal of this whole thing.
“We do what we were created to do. Kick the Dark Lord’s ass and make him wish he never left Hell to begin with,” I said, holding each of their gazes. “We have to find out the big picture, and fast. Hudson, can you reach out to your dad and find out what he can tell us about this project?”
“Of course,” Hudson said, nodding his head. “I can’t imagine why he would be doing this project so secretly. Unless he wants to hide it from my mother for some reason.”
“Only way to know is to ask,” Jay pointed out.
“True, or we could do something more fun,” Parker said, wagging his brows.
Micah groaned. “Please don’t tell me we’re going to be taking any ideas from this idiot.”
“Can we at least hear him out before shooting down his plan?” I said, shooting Micah a look that he just rolled his eyes at.
“That big party for your dad’s company is tomorrow, right? Why don’t we just confront the evil governess right in the middle of an Elementi party?” Parker suggested, bouncing with his excitement.
“Because, dumbass, there will be normal businessmen and women there that have no idea about the Elementi. If we expose demons into the world like that, how well do you think that will go over?” Micah said, smacking Parker upside the head.
Parker growled at him, walked over to me, picked me up, and placed me on his lap.
“Are you using me as a human shield against Micah?” I asked, trying not to laugh.
“Yeah, some man that makes you. What makes you think that will stop me from hitting you?” Micah challenged.
Parker just wrapped his arms around my stomach and hid his face in the back of my neck.
“Maybe it was just the excuse I needed to get some snuggles from Trouble. I haven’t been able to spend much time with her since we got here.
If Jay isn’t sparring with her, then she’s working on stuff or cooking. I just needed some cuddles is all.”
I burst into laughter. It was probably one of the most adorable things anyone has ever said to me. “Works for me.”
“Whatever,” Micah grumbled, giving Parker a dirty look. “I still think your idea is shit.”
“It might not be,” Jay said, causing us all to look at him in surprise. “I agree we can’t confront her in front of everyone, but what if we got her alone and did it then? It would keep it away from the family and in an area we can choose for the best advantage.”
I grinned at him and gave him a wink. “This is why they pay you the big bucks, Jay.”
“Trouble, hand me my laptop,” Parker said, his lips brushing my ear and sending shivers down my spine.
Flipping it open and keeping me on his lap, I watched as his fingers flew over the keyboard. I hadn’t a clue what he was doing, but I was impressed nonetheless. Moments later, a blueprint was pulled up on the screen, and when I saw the name on the top of it, I gasped.
“Did you just find the blueprints for the hotel they’re having the party at?” I asked, amazed.
“Sure did. Now we can have the master of war look it over and see where our confrontation would best be held,” Parker said, smugly.
“Hold on, are we really doing this asinine plan?” Micah cut in, throwing out an arm to stop Jay from grabbing the computer.
“We need information, and we can’t let her stay in our house,” Brayden said with a shrug.
“Logically, it has its risks, but if it goes well, then we will get our hands on a valuable asset,” Hudson agreed.
“We all know it was my idea, so I’m in,” Parker grinned.
They all turned to Jay expectantly. “I want to look over things, and if I feel it can be done with no casualties, then yes, I think we should move forward.”
“Hey, isn’t anyone going to ask me what I think?” I snapped.
Micah looked at me and set his head on his hand. “Cookie Monster, your answer is going to be to take the bitch out so we can keep the kids and family safe, no matter the danger to yourself.”
Opening and closing my mouth a few times, I didn’t have a comeback for that because he was right. So instead, I just leaned back into Parker and huffed, taking a swig of my now cold tea, causing the table to burst out in laughter.
“Now that we all agree, let the planning begin,” Hudson said, clapping his hands.
