Ember Under Four Moons

Elara meant to spend the night on her couch with a deadline and a houseplant, not to fall screaming through a hole in the sky.

She went through it with three men she barely knew, her neighbor, and the cat she had adopted—except the cat is a person now, their commander, and she had already said far too much to him.

She lands in a forest under four moons in drugstore flip-flops, told she is somewhere safe by men who will not name the place, while a light no one will explain clings to her and she discovers she can see in the dark.

She has also been speaking her entire inner monologue out loud to men who hear every word, including one who walks through shadows and has already been inside her apartment.

One of them holds her together without saying why it works, another is fleeing a danger that has nothing to do with her, and all of them stare as if she cannot possibly be real.

Elara wants her couch back, wants Gerald back, and has no desire to learn what a female dragon is.
