Chapter Seven
River
My omega was magnificent. I’d thought it before and I would keep thinking it over and over it seemed.
Ember was a phoenix shifter, the very first I’d ever seen in person.
He was also slowly coming around and accepting our bond.
After he’d shown me his phoenix, it was as though all of his fears had evaporated, and now we could finally move forward as mates.
I began drying Ember’s skin which was slightly tanned, likely from the sun, and I had to ask, “What did you do for a living at the royal palace?”
He froze and a hint of fear and trepidation came over me. I knew he hadn’t serviced anyone sexually, so that sort of work wasn’t what had him so nervous. “I was a farmer,” he whispered as I continued to dry him.
“That explains the tan,” I smiled, kissing his stomach.
“You don’t mind it?” he asked, sounding surprised. I also felt his disbelief.
“That you were a farmer?” I asked and he nodded. “No, why would I mind that?”
“Well, you likely thought I was someone important when you picked me up, didn’t you?”
I shrugged. “You are important, you’re my omega.”
He sighed like I was irritating him, but I also felt his happiness at my words.
“What were you doing at the palace if you worked as a farmer?” I asked instead, feeling intrigued. We never had any farmers here at the palace, only on those days where we welcomed them in for a feast for all of their hard work.
“I was sold to the fae crown prince,” he whispered, and I felt his determination as he spoke the words. He didn’t want there to be secrets between us. “I was to be bred by him so he could have phoenix shifter children.”
My horror must’ve been felt and seen, because Ember gave me a shy smile. “I’m not proud to admit my family sold me off, but you saved me before my heat, and for that I’m thankful.”
“Fuck, so am I,” I breathed. To think my omega had been so close to being bred like he was nothing more than a womb to them. “I hope you know that isn’t something I plan for us.”
“What do you mean?” Ember asked, tilting his head. He was fully dry now and watched me as I hurriedly dried myself with the same towel.
“I mean, you and I won’t be having kids for four hundred years at least.”
He crossed his arms and glared at me, anger evident in his feelings. My omega wanted children here and now. I should’ve foreseen that.
“What if I don’t want them at all? Or isn’t that something that works with your four-hundred-year plan?” he sniped.
“We don’t have to have children,” I said, feeling calmer now that I knew he wouldn’t be disappointed in the lack of babies. “Dragon alphas can’t impregnate their omegas until after they turn six-hundred. I am only two-hundred.”
He blinked, then uncrossed his arms, letting them fall to his sides. “Oh.”
I laughed, scratching my neck. “Is that fine with you?”
He grinned, obviously pleased. “I still don’t think I ever want children, but four-hundred years guaranteed without any babies is definitely good news.”
I sighed with relief. “Good. And if you still don’t want children at that time, we won’t have them.”
“Deal,” he beamed.
We then walked back into the bedroom and instantly I felt agitation coming from my omega as he eyed the bed with a frown.
His heat was likely a day or two away. Our bond had sped things up it seemed and now Ember was giving out obvious signs that he needed to nest, something I knew he’d yet to actually do.
I opened my dresser and pulled out all of the blankets I had.
Then took out the clothes I had piled in my hamper, knowing he would enjoy my scent.
I had a small sitting room that I also used as my office which had pillows and other soft things and I picked those out as well, carefully placing everything on the floor next to the bed.
My omega began making his nest, seemingly without realizing it.
His body was still naked as he moved about, making his nest as perfect as possible.
Our bed had four posts, and I let down the sides to create our own little private cocoon, something that made Ember burst with happiness as he continued to work inside of it, humming a little as he did so.
He was too cute, and clearly nearing his heat, something I was very much looking forward to.
I’d get to breed his womb, not with babies, but still with my seed and cock. I would also get to knot him.
I rumbled as I peeked inside the curtains and watched his cute little butt wiggle as he moved blankets and pillows around. Suddenly, heat took over and I growled loudly, my entire body shaking with need for my omega.
Fuck!
Ember stalled his nest making, peering back over his shoulder at me with a wide-eyed look. “A-are you?”
I nodded, feeling myself slink back as my dragon pushed forward.
“My rut is starting.” I grimaced, closing my eyes.
Ruts only happened to mated alphas and some rarely ever had them, dragons though…
“I’m sorry,” I gritted. “I need to lock myself away so I won’t harm you.
” All I’d want would be to sink into my omega’s warm heat, fucking him senseless.
I couldn’t do that, though, not until his heat had started, a sure sign his body was ready to be taken.
An omega that hadn’t yet had his heat couldn’t fit an alpha cock inside of him, no matter how much prep work there was.
“Lock yourself away?” Ember whispered, his fear of us being separated felt nice, and I felt the same. I didn’t want to lock myself into our dungeon, but it needed to happen. I just had no idea what to do with Ember’s upcoming heat.
“We have a dungeon,” I groaned, losing myself more as pure animal instinct took over.
“Like fuck you are!” my omega snapped. “You’re not locking yourself away from me when you need me more than ever.
And don’t even try to lie to me, I know ruts are like heats, you need me there and like hell will I allow another omega to help you out.
” His golden eyes flashed with red, his own phoenix pushing to the forefront.
He was losing himself too. If getting him agitated would help his heat to come, then I knew just what to say.
“You aren’t able to take my cock, omega,” I taunted.
“You don’t know that!” he snapped, eyes flashing once again.
“You haven’t had your heat yet, how are you supposed to take an alphas knot? My knot.”
He was kneeling on the bed, hands fisted at his sides as he glared at me with all he had. He likely wasn’t aware of how hard and aroused he was, but I felt and smelled everything. It was working.
“I was made to take you,” he growled, crawling closer to me. “I can fit every inch with ease.”
My dragon rumbled deep within me, ready to test his theory. I rasped, “then show me.” He blinked, not expecting it. “Show me how wet you are for me,” I continued, purring. “Show me what’s mine.”
