Chapter 19
Nylah POV
The charcoal linen sheets were cool against the bare skin of my back, but the heat pressing down from above drove the chill out of the mattress within seconds.
Ryan’s body was an unyielding expanse of dense muscle, heavy bone, and feverish skin.
He settled his weight over my torso, propping his forearms on either side of my head, caging my frame beneath two hundred and twenty pounds of athlete.
The physical reality of him took the air straight from my lungs: my ribs felt small beneath the massive width of his chest; my thighs were bracketed by the thick, scarred power of his legs.
His breath washed over my parted lips in ragged, hot bursts that tasted of dark coffee and cedar.
His hands moved.
He didn't grab. His large, calloused palms slid slowly down the linen until his long fingers found mine. He threaded his scarred fingers between my slender ones, lacing our hands together, and pressed our joined knuckles flat against the pillows on either side of my head.
The contact was an anchor dropped into a storm. His knuckles were rough, swollen across the joints, his skin blazing against my cold fingers.
"Look at me, Nylah," he commanded, his gravelly baritone rumbling deep in his chest, vibrating straight through the bones of my sternum.
I opened my eyes. In the pale blue-white glow filtering through the snow crusted against the window blinds, his face was cast in sharp, predatory relief. The silver scar through his left eyebrow twitched; his pupils were dilated so wide they swallowed every trace of grey in his irises.
"No running," he whispered, his voice dropping into a dark, ruined rasp that scraped across my jaw. "No hiding behind your numbers. Stay right here with me."
My fingers tightened around his, my knuckles whitening as I squeezed his hands. The frantic impulse that had governed my entire life—the need to measure, calculate, and defend every breath—dissolved into the dark room.
"I'm here, Ryan," I breathed, my lips parting on a ragged exhale that brushed his rough stubble. "Take everything."

The last fragile layer of lace disappeared between our bodies, discarded into the shadows without a sound.
The first touch of bare skin against bare skin was an overwhelming shock to my nervous system. His chest pressed flat against mine, the rough, dark hair on his pectoral muscle creating a blistering friction against my sensitized breasts.
He didn't rush. He positioned his hips between my parted thighs, moving with an unhurried, agonizing deliberation that stretched every nerve ending in my body taut as a drawn wire.
When he pressed forward, crossing the final physical threshold, the sudden, stretching fullness stole the breath straight from my throat.
My head arched back into the pillows, a sharp, ragged gasp tearing from my lips as my hips locked up in instinctual resistance.
Ryan stilled instantly.
His massive frame froze over mine, the corded muscles in his arms trembling with the strain of holding his full weight off my ribs. His forehead pressed against the hollow of my shoulder, his breathing harsh, uneven, and hot against my collarbone.
"I've got you," he rumbled, his voice thick with raw restraint, vibrating against my skin. "Breathe, sweetheart. Just breathe for me."
His fingers remained laced through mine, his thumbs stroking the backs of my hands with steady, grounding pressure.
I forced my lungs to draw air, matching the heavy, slow rise of his chest. Beneath the initial ache, a deep, molten heat began to coil in the center of my pelvis, spreading outward in waves that made my toes curl against the sheets. My hips softened, yielding to the unyielding presence filling me.
"Ryan," I whimpered, my hips shifting upward against him, seeking the friction.
A ragged groan tore from his throat.
He began to move.
The cadence was deep, slow, and devastatingly rhythmic.
Every long, heavy stroke of his hips drove the breath from my lungs, creating a searing friction that turned the cold bedroom into an open furnace.
He moved with the authoritative precision of an athlete, relentless and steady, claiming every inch of my body with a patient, unyielding dominance.
His mouth stayed glued to my skin—pressing open, burning kisses to my jawline, my throat, the sensitive notch behind my ear.
"Good girl," he rasped, his voice breaking into a dark, ragged praise that hit my bloodstream like an intoxicant. "Look at how good you take me. You're so tight around me, Nylah... all mine. Tell me you're mine."
"Yours," I sobbed, my hands tearing free from his grip to wrap around his neck, my fingernails digging into the thick muscles of his upper back. "Ryan, please—"
"I've got you," he growled, picking up the pace, his chest slapping against mine with concussive force, his breath scorching my neck. "Let go, Nylah. Come for me."
The pressure built to an unbearable, blinding peak. My heels dug hard into the charcoal linen, my hips arching off the mattress to meet every driving stroke.
Then the dam broke.
A full-body explosion ripped through my nervous system, shattering my breath into fractured, breathless cries against his shoulder. My internal muscles clamped around him in long, violent, rhythmic spasms of release.
Ryan’s control snapped. With a deep, guttural roar that vibrated against the base of my skull, he drove hard into me one final time, burying his face in my neck as his own release tore through his massive frame in shuddering, concussive waves.

The room went silent, save for the violent blizzard rattling the glass and our shared, ragged gasps for air.
Ryan collapsed heavily over me, his forehead buried in the crook of my neck, his broad chest heaving against mine. His skin was slick with shared sweat, burning hot against mine, his weight pressing me deep into the mattress.
He didn't pull away.
He stayed inside me, his arms wrapping around my waist, his rough cheek resting against my burning collarbone as our racing heartbeats gradually found a single, unified cadence.
After three long minutes, he shifted his weight.
With slow, protective care, he rolled us onto our sides, pulling me with him so that my back was molded flush against his broad chest. He didn't let an inch of cold air between our bodies.
He hooked his heavy arm over my waist, anchoring my hips against his, and threw his thick right leg over mine, locking me inside his warmth.
He reached down, pulling the heavy charcoal down duvet up to our chins, sealing out the damp draft of the room.
His lips brushed the nape of my neck, pressing a soft, lingering kiss against the damp curve of my upper spine.
"Go to sleep, Collins," he murmured, his gravelly rasp thick with exhaustion and absolute, unshakable peace. "I'm not letting you go."
I lay in the dark sanctuary of his bed, listening to the howling storm outside, enveloped in the smell of crushed cedar, winter pine, and our joined heat.
Beneath my shoulder blade, his heart beat with a slow, heavy, permanent rhythm.
A quiet, terrifying truth settled into the marrow of my bones.
This wasn't an arrangement. This wasn't an adrenaline-fueled mistake born of a storm.
Every defense I had ever built was gone, burned to ash in the dark, and my heart belonged entirely to the man holding me against his chest.
