9. Honey
Honey
I don’t even truly know if I can believe the other omega. But she told me that she’d find a way for me to escape. And she did.
She told me to head north and that I’d find Hod’s Landing. I did.
I found a motorcycle club and a symbol with something that looks like a horse, facing east, with far too many legs. I counted the legs three times and got different numbers each time, but I’m pretty sure it’s eight.
Now there are just a few things left: making sure this is the right bear, telling him what I know, and surviving my impure time.
The problem is, this would be a lot easier if my impure time wasn’t clouding my mind and making my body so inhospitable. Before, all I had to do was remember the prayers that we’d say. All I had to do was recite each word.
But now I’m being tested like the apostles said I would be.
I’m an omega lost to my lustful body, consumed by my impure thoughts about the alpha who let me in the gate.
He is the most handsome alpha I’ve ever seen.
He’s much older, maybe twice my age, if I had to guess.
His what once must have been dark hair is mixed with bright white and soft grays, kept in a thick braid.
But there’s something about him. It’s kind and well mannered.
He behaves with so much respect, like the disciples did when I first moved to the community of the House of Apostles.
He’s not interested in me though, not like I’m attracted to him. Maybe this is what the apostles were talking about. The omega’s wiles, while she’s impure, make her want every alpha she finds.
But I don’t want any of the newest alphas who have shown up. They’re not appealing to me. Not like the two they just threw out or the one they call Lazarus.
The two they threw out made me feel something. It’s good, like the first taste of a fresh apple, only ten times better. The one alpha touched me and purred for me. I liked it. I don’t feel dirty like the apostles said I would.
Then the other one, identical to him, two of the same. I coveted it. I wanted him to touch me too, but he stayed away.
They’re gone. Focus, Honey.
There is a third one with dark hair and eyes. But he’s still not the same as the two I liked. Similar . . . He’s their father? No, looks too young. Brother?
There’s a fourth alpha behind me, but I don’t turn to look at him again. I caught a glimpse, another massive blonde alpha. I try to force my feet to the floor to sit in the chair and be respectful.
Remember what she said. I’ve already come this far. My fingers cling to the seam on the side of my dress as I try to force myself to gather my thoughts.
‘Hod’s Landing, north of here, Night Wraith’s motorcycle compound.’ Her voice is an echo in my brain.
The blonde alpha’s vest reads Revenant on one side. If his vest indicates his name, then he’s who I have to talk to.
‘Revenant. Big, blonde hair, blue eyes.’ The confirmation of her voice is what I need.
My mouth is dry, and I move my tongue around trying to wet it. Heat licks at my collar, and I tug on it just a little. No. Don’t do that, it’s not proper.
“Omega,” Revenant commands.
His stern word draws my gaze from the patch on his chest that held my attention. Gospel Legacy itches at my brain like maybe I’m all wrong. Could this be a trap? The omega was a polytheist. Gospel is a term I know.
“I’m sorry,” I whine, biting my lips together, hoping that I get what I need.
“Why are you here, Omega?” he growls, and I try to sink into my chair.
“I was sent here.” I answer as straightforward as I can. My brain is all tied up in knots, and I can’t focus.
“Fuck,” the alpha behind me mutters under his breath.
Revenant scrubs his hand down his face. “Alright, so who sent you? What agency is it that thinks we’re trafficking omegas?”
I shake my head, and the hair on the back of my neck is wet with sweat. I want to pull it up out of the way to cool myself off but have no way of restraining it. “No one. I don’t know what that means.”
Lazarus finally looks at me again. It feels so much easier to be in this room when he does. “Just speak the truth, Omega.”
There is not a purr in his voice, but I want there to be one. Please purr, make me better.
His encouragement, albeit flat and neutral, helps me talk.
“I looked in the phone book until I found a few motorcycle shops, but no motorcycle clubs. So, I started walking toward the nearest motorcycle shop, asking for directions. Then I saw an alpha in a vest get on a motorcycle. The vest had the Sl-slep-slechpn . . .”
“Sleipnir,” Revenant says for me.
“That, the horse with the eight legs, facing east, like the rising sun.” I can better hear the omega’s words in my head from the days before I left.
My head spins, and my skin feels like it’s on fire. It would be indecent, but I wish I could loosen the ties on my dress just a little bit.
“I followed the direction he went in. But motorcycles are very fast.” The warmth all over is now increasing the heat between my thighs.
I draw a deep breath and let it out before talking again.
“So, I kept walking in a straight line, and then I found another motorcycle going left, so I started going left. And then I found the water and then the fence and another person in a vest on the other side of the fence. He was a beta, and I knew I was looking for an alpha, but I figured there was no harm in asking.”
Revenant looks over my head. I look up and find there’s a whiteboard above me. I can’t read what’s on it from this angle. The alpha holding it tilts it to other people in the room, and everyone sees it but me.
“I know, Fox,” Revenant says as if he’s answering a question.
“So, you came to a motorcycle club, why? Who sent you here?” One of the alphas behind me presses for more information.
“The omega said.” I squeeze my legs together, and the building pressure intensifies. But with the pressure building, my brain clears a little bit. It’s a welcome release.
“Which omega?” Revenant growls.
I freeze. My heart thunders in my chest. “I’m only supposed to speak to Revenant.”
The room goes eerily quiet, or maybe that’s just because the ringing in my ears stopped.
“Omega.” Revenant leans forward in his chair. Those blue eyes are so sharp and cutting. Vaguely familiar. “You can speak to me with my leadership here.”
She never mentioned this. But maybe I need to. There’s a wetness between my thighs now, coming from my core, and the room around us is starting to get darker.
“Heavenly Virgin Mother, make me . . .” I shake my head, trying to stop the impurity from overtaking me.
“Make me a vessel and purify me.” Lazarus’s deep voice finishes the prayer.
I try to focus on him with his brown eyes that feel so soft and kind. I like him. He knows the prayer. He understands me.
