Chapter 19
Chapter Nineteen
An agitated Noah paced the common room. “I just don’t get why you are intent on treating it like a rock star.”
“I mean, he is bigger than anything else ever seen on Earth.” I couldn’t help the sarcasm.
Noah glared.
I shrugged. “Listen. We don’t have a lot of options. As you mentioned earlier, we have no way out of here. Ain’t no way they’re letting a plane or ship come close that isn’t military.”
“I’m sure they’re working on a way to extract us.”
“Working with little information. My interview will show what we’re up against. The might size. The intelligence. The arrogance.” I couldn’t help but add that last bit.
Finally, a little light bulb lit in Noah’s head. “You’re milking it for weaknesses while stalling for time.”
I tried to not wince as he said it aloud. Immediately, his lips flattened as he realized his mistake.
“I wouldn’t worry about blabbing too much aloud. For all we know, it can read our minds. After all, it can speak inside of it,” Joslyn stated, lounging on a chair, legs dangled over the armrest.
Valid point. “We also can’t forget he’s not stupid. He’s been listening to us. Studying us. He’s aware what we’re capable of.”
“And thinks he can handle it,” Noah scoffed.
“Maybe he can, or he’s psyching us.” I rolled my shoulders. “Doesn’t matter. We know next to nothing about Leviathan. Will an interview help to ensure he doesn’t destroy the world? No way of knowing, but it can’t hurt to try.”
“This could be a ploy to get you close. You might not return alive.” Noah remained the grounded and grim voice of reason.
“From the sounds of it, almost everyone is gonna croak anyhow, so might as well do something meaningful beforehand.”
“Stop acting so fucking nonchalant.” Noah snatched my hand and dragged us to our room. I expected more haranguing, but instead, his lips smashed against mine.
“Going to punish me?” I murmured in between hot embraces.
“More like take advantage of the time we have left.”
I’d like to say we made love all night long, but it was much too wild for that. At least the first two times. Our touches were firm, our kisses torrid, our coupling fierce and intense.
Only after a few hours of sleep did our third bout take its tender time.
Our lips slowly explored, lingering in a bittersweet way that had me clenching.
He rolled me and spooned me against him, all the better to slide his hand between my thighs and tease my clit as he sucked at my neck.
I writhed and pushed my ass against him, wet and wild, wanting the hard cock pinned against my back.
When he slid into me from behind, I gasped and grabbed his hand cupping my breast. With his lips sucking at the flesh of my neck, he moved inside me, grinding more than thrusting, filling me, holding me, pleasuring me until I came.
A small orgasm, that rolled into a second, a stronger ripple that had me moaning.
And when he came, his teeth nipping at my skin, that sharp burst of pain, and the heat of his cum, rolled me into a breath-stealing third.
I’d like to say we cuddled afterwards and whispered sweet nothings. I fell asleep in the cocoon of his arms only to reawaken at a rude announcement.
I’ve fed. You will interview me now.
I startled awake, disturbing Noah, who went to roll but hit the wall.
“Ow.”
“Oops.” My giggle emerged a tad hysterical.
“Guess his highness is requesting our presence.”
“You don’t have to come.”
“You couldn’t make me stay behind if you tried,” his wry reply.
“Try not to say anything that might get you eaten.”
“I’ll do my best. Hopefully its belly is full and we’re all safe from digestion for a while.”
The wakeup call extended to Joslyn and Vernon, too, who emerged looking better rested than expected. Or did their excitement mask fatigue? This would be the biggest event of their career. A career that could end before the end of the day.
My winter gear looked a little worn from everything it had gone through.
Splashes of water from blood falls left it stained in spots.
A tear in a sleeve. Half the hood hanging off.
It would have to do because the station didn’t have anything better.
Usually, it wouldn’t matter. In the post edit, they’d remove or smooth out anything too rough.
But this would be going straight to the cloud, assuming the signal returned.
The message I’d tried to send Giles while dressing took four attempts to send.
I’d kept it brief; Post the video asap. 1984.
He’d get the subtle reference, I hoped, because I doubted the governments monitoring the situation would allow Leviathan’s message to be broadcast for long.
Joslyn and Vernon, eager to get started, almost got wedged in the door as they both tried to exit at once. They stumbled free, and I sighed.
“Guess we’re really doing this.”
“How weird is it to be actually proving dragons are real instead of debunking it?” Noah stated as I stepped over the threshold into the bright Antarctic sun and crisp air.
“Funny thing is, I’ve got a folder partially filled with evidence that proves they don’t. Just been waiting for the right time to finish it and air it. Guess I’ll have to set it on fire now.” And not start wondering if I’d been so utterly wrong on other cases.
“Velma, get your butt over here so we can check sound and color,” Joslyn bellowed.
“That’s my cue. Wish me luck.”
“I thought show biz was break a leg.”
“Actually, I think today I’m going to blow some minds.” With the most epic revelation ever.
