Chapter 47 Ava

Ava

The room changes when they leave.

Too quiet.

Too still.

Like everything important just walked out the door.

I hate it.

I should be out there.

Moving.

Fighting.

Instead—

I sit.

Tablet in front of me.

Jonah beside me, screens lighting up one by one.

Data floods in.

“Alright,” he mutters. “Let’s see what we’ve got.”

I lean forward.

Focus sharpens instantly.

Pain fades into the background.

Everything does.

This is what I was trained for.

What they made me into.

What I choose to be now.

“Wait.”

Jonah pauses mid-typing.

“What?”

I zoom in.

Cross-reference movement patterns.

Timing.

Routes.

Something’s off.

“They’re not targeting just one person.”

Jonah frowns.

“What do you mean?”

My stomach tightens.

Because I see it now.

Clear.

Deliberate.

“They’re building a chain.”

He stills.

“…that’s not good.”

“No.”

I tap into comms.

“Ethan.”

Static—

Then—

“Go ahead.”

His voice steadies everything.

“They’re not hitting just the target,” I say. “They’re using him.”

A beat.

“Using him how?”

“To pull others in.”

Silence.

Then Aaron—

“…you mean like everyone important showing up at once?”

“Exactly.”

Jonah exhales slowly.

“That’s not a hit.”

My eyes stay locked on the screen.

Heart beating faster now.

“It’s a trap.”

A beat.

Then—

“It’s a massacre.”
