Chapter Four

Zeke

She was going to meet me… But someone sabotaged that.

Someone made sure we broke up, and I know my bitch wife had something to do with it.

I feel so fucking stupid for never reaching out to her.

I was hurt and confused. Meghan got me so goddamn drunk that I was hungover all weekend.

She must have known Mariska was in the hospital, and that’s also why her parents wouldn’t tell me anything about her in the years to follow.

I have a lot of making up to do, but I will get my girl back.

What I need to do first is find out if Meghan was involved.

I can’t find out who hurt Mariska if I don’t get at least something out of her first. Even if it means I never get a chance to make up for everything I did wrong, I will find out who tried to kill her.

I step out the back door as I am calling Meghan, and she answers pretty quickly. “Hello?”

“Did you know?” I ask.

“Know what?” Meghan asks with a sigh.

“That Mariska was brutally raped and nearly killed the night she was supposed to meet me? Someone intentionally hurt her to keep her from meeting me, Meghan. Did you know?”

“Yeah. So?”

“So?” I ask. “She was your best friend from kindergarten. So?”

“What does it matter? You’re married to me.” Meghan says with an amused tone.

“And I should be married to her,” I quip. “I don’t know how, but I know you are part of this.”

“Hmm. No. I was with my parents in public. I didn’t do shit,” she says.

“You got me wasted and… you know damn well I didn’t want that,” I say with a growl.

“Awe. Boo fucking hoo. You came in me anyway, so how forced could it have been, pussy? Be a fucking man and shut the fuck up about it already.”

“I am so fucking glad that miscarriage ended in a hysterectomy,” I say harshly, hitting where I know it will hurt her.

“You fucking son of a b…” I end the call and turn around to see Mariska standing in the doorway.

“You got her pregnant?” Mariska asks.

“Uh. Yeah. I guess,” I say. “She got me shit drunk with just a few drinks. I am missing a lot of time, but we fucked and… well, she just kept pushing me. I was lonely and missing you. So, she was a surrogate for a while. A greedy, manipulative, narcissistic, abusive surrogate.”

“I’m sorry you’re unhappy,” she says. “Why not leave her?”

“I think part of me thinks I should be punished for letting you walk away. Well. I thought you walked away,” I say. “Either way…I’m so sorry, Riss.”

“It’s not okay,” she says, but sighs. “But I think the world was just working against us.”

“I’d give anything to get it back,” I admit.

“Even Meghan?” she asks.

“I’d give Meghan up for nothing in return,” I say, and she smirks. “She admitted that she knew. I think she’s involved in you getting hurt. I can’t prove it yet… but I’ll find out who hurt you.”

“You don’t have to,” she says. “I’ve accepted that I’ll never get justice.”

“I don’t accept that,” I say. “You didn’t deserve that.”

“Neither did you,” she remarks, but I give her a confused look. “Zeke, she raped you.”

“But I got off, Riss. I got her pregnant,” I say softly. I know she doesn’t want to think of it that way.

“That’s bullshit, Zeke. Are you saying I wanted it?” she asks.

“No, of course not. You got hurt and…”

“You work in fucking sex crimes and you…” she starts to yell but stops and closes her eyes to take a deep breath.

“I had a third-degree perineal tear and still had an orgasm, Zee. It’s just a response to stimulation.

I don’t care what happened; she got you drunk, probably drugged you, raped you, and filmed it.

That’s first-degree rape and revenge porn.

I don’t care who says what; you were raped, and you didn’t deserve that. ”

I stare at her because I know that’s true, but I’ve spent years being degraded by Meghan.

“Why did she have a hysterectomy?” Mariska asks.

“Not sure. I just know that whatever happened, she hemorrhaged and was bleeding out, so she had to have one.”

“Karma,” she says simply.

“Let’s get our day started, hmm?” I suggest. “I’m glad you’re here. Maybe we can…”

“Sorry to interrupt,” Geno says, poking his head outside. “Meghan is here and loud. Come handle it before Kevin gets back.”

“Fuck,” I sigh. “Okay.”

We walk into the station, and I hear her shouting. “Where is my husband?! Where is he?” Meghan shouts. When we round the corner, I can see she is pissed.

“Will you shut up?” I scold her with a hushed tone. “What is your problem?”

She sees Mariska, and a mix of anger and jealousy is obvious on her face.

The thing about Meghan is that she thinks she’s hot shit because she’s thin.

She would always talk down to Mariska because she’s thicker, and even now, she still is.

God, it’s fucking delicious, too. She has thick thighs, a rounded ass, and incredible breasts.

Seeing Meghan scan Mariska like she has something on her for being thinner makes me legitimately angry.

Which is fucking wild because Mariska is the one who can effortlessly run a mile.

She is strong, and I just know she handled the law enforcement training amazingly.

Meghan might be thin, but skinny doesn’t mean fit.

“Why is she here?” Meghan asks.

“Hello to you, too, bestie,” Mariska says with a bright smile before turning to me.

She lays her hand on my bicep, and you can almost see the steam coming out of Meghan’s ears.

The warmth of her touch has me falling in love with her all over again.

“I’m going to go over to our desk and get started on the case file. ”

“Okay,” I say, smirking. “I won’t be long, and I’m going to go back through it, too.”

“Okay,” she says with the sweetest smile.

When she goes to step past Meghan, it’s like slow motion when she starts to grab Mariska. I quickly grab her wrist and pull her away because I know that will lead to Mariska laying her ass out in front of everyone.

“Outside,” I growl, pointing to the back door.

“Do we have a problem?” Kevin asks.

“Go, Meghan,” I snap.

Meghan huffs and stomps to the door. I wink at Mariska, and she smiles before I turn to handle my bitch wife. When I get outside, Meghan turns on me. “Are you fucking her?”

“First of all, that’s rich coming from you,” I say. “Second, no. She is my partner, though.”

“No. Fuck no. I don’t want you near her,” Meghan scoffs. “If you want me, I don’t want you near her. She’s obsessed with…”

“Make no fucking mistake, Meghan. She has and always will be the love of my life. You were a second choice.”

“How can you say that to me? Do you not love me?” Meghan asks, tears welling up in her eyes.

“Stop it,” I sigh. “Don’t start this shit.”

“Start what? Zeke, I love you. Don’t you see that? She’s gonna try and break us up.”

“You know when you sent the video to her of you fucking me while I was unconscious, she was in the hospital after nearly dying?” I ask. “Meghan, I don’t know why you’d do something so awful, but I know you helped hurt Riss. You tried to get your best friend killed, and I will prove it.”

“I didn’t do that, Zeke. I swear, I didn’t,” she sniffs back fake tears. “Can we talk about this tonight? Please?”

“Fine,” I say. “Understand she is still my partner, and that will not change. I will be spending a lot of time with her, just like everyone else here. You have no say in that. Also, if I want to fuck her, I will. Just like you have been fucking other men the entire time we’ve been together. You have no leverage here.”

“Okay,” she says with a sigh.

“Walk around the building and leave,” I say, pulling the door open and stepping inside. When I shut the door back, I sigh. I really need to divorce her. Maybe it’s time to make some changes.
