Chapter Nine

Zeke

God, I love that woman. I know she is going to have the best time with him in there. A little jealous I don’t get to watch, but there is plenty of time later to see them connect.

“Hey,” I say to Caleb as I walk into the lab.

“Hey, man,” he says. “I got your text. What’s up?”

“I need you to put my DNA in the system,” I say. “Kevin knows, too, but to make a long story short, I think my older brother is who raped Mariska. Kevin said my DNA can be run to rule me out, since I was in her life back then.”

“Brother? Damn, he’s a piece of shit,” Caleb says as he goes to get a collection kit.

“Yeah, well, he raped me for years. It’s not surprising. I think my parents put him up to it to prevent her and me from staying together. They hated her family because they didn’t have the money they did,” I explain.

“Does she know?”

“Yeah,” I say. “We just don’t want anyone knowing right now. If it’s confirmed, that’s different.”

“Okay. I’ve got a buddy in the state lab who can get this pushed through. I should be able to tell you tomorrow,” he says. “Same thing for the semen sample from the last victim.”

“Gotcha,” I say. “Thanks, man.”

“Not a problem,” he says. “Open up.”

Once Caleb swabs the inside of my cheek, I sign the paper and go back down to the conference room.
