Chapter 8 Riverside Apology
The cool night breeze carried the salty tang of the river.
It slightly eased the anger in my heart.
I looked coldly at the man across from me, injured and bandaged, with a new wound on his face.
"Are you sober now?"
"I'm sorry."
Xie Yi Heng lowered his eyes, not daring to look at me directly.
I almost laughed in anger.
"Is your sorry what I want? I thought I made it clear that day."
Avoid places where the other might appear.
That should have been our unspoken agreement.
I had tried my best to avoid this situation.
And what had he done?
I looked at the shimmering river surface and took a deep breath.
"Xie Yi Heng, I really don't understand what you're thinking."
"Why make everyone so embarrassed?"
His voice was hoarse.
"I don't understand either."
"Just like I don't understand why you could leave so calmly back then."
"For five whole years, no word from you."
Xie Yi Heng raised his eyes to look at me, almost drowned in intense sadness.
"Wen Yu, all these years I've been wondering, did you ever really love me?"
I couldn't understand.
"What's the point of saying this now?"
"I want an answer."
His dark eyes stared at me stubbornly.
I looked at Gu Chao Nan not far away, leaning against the car.
The wind picked up, as if bringing his restlessness.
Xie Yi Heng followed my gaze.
The emotions in his eyes grew more obscure.
I told him.
"I did love you once."
"Later, to me, you were a comfort zone, a habit, like mineral water."
Not to the point where I couldn't let go.
