12. Amina Sinclair #3
“Oh baby, me and Tyrell are the king, and queen of complication. I’m not sure what your story is, but to help you ease your mind a little bit and let you know that you aren’t the only one with complications, I’ll share our story with you.
Me and Tyrell have been together since middle school.
Being that young, you know that there was immaturity on both sides, so we were forever breaking up.
We were breaking up to make up since twelve years old, up until about two years ago.
During one of our breakups, his ass got another woman pregnant.
I put up with a lot of shit from him over the years, but when I found out about the pregnancy, I told him that I wasn’t putting up with that.
Girl, if I was ever done before, I was done that day,” she announced.
“Oh wow. How did you find out that he got another woman pregnant?” I wanted to know.
“He told me. Mind you, we weren’t together when it happened, but him and I always knew that even on our breaks that we would get back together.
He told me that the girl called him, saying that she was pregnant.
Amina, that shit hurt me with every fiber in my body because I used to hang onto hope that we were going to get it right one day, and that I would be the one to give him his first child.
I stopped dealing with him after that. When the baby arrived, he wanted a DNA test done.
From the very beginning, he had been questioning if the child was even his.
The child’s mother gave him a hard time getting a DNA test done, so Tyrell had it court ordered.
Girl, come to find out that the baby wasn’t even his,” she told me, and I gasped.
“I still had trust issues, so I didn’t immediately come back.
When I say that man begged, and pleaded to get me back, I mean that.
Flowers were getting sent every day to my apartment, he was planning these grand dates, so it was only so long before I gave in.
To show me how serious he was about us, he even recommended therapy for us.
We went to therapy for months. I had to learn how to really forgive him for that.
We had to learn how to communicate properly so that we wouldn’t be back to the same ole’ break up to make up.
Once we completed therapy, he proposed to me.
We got married last year, and here we are,” she finished.
I smiled at that. They definitely went through their fair share of trials, but I loved that they made it out. The love between them was evident. Hell, I could see the love that they had for each other when I was sitting far away on the other side of them.
“I love to see healthy love. I’m glad that you two were able to get it right. How old are you? You both look so young,” I stated.
“We’re both 24 years old,” she let me know.
“Which means that he married you at 23 years old. Sounds like a man that knows what he wanted because girl, it’s men out here that’s in their 30’s and 40’ s and the idea of marriage still scares them.
I think Tyrell just had to get it out of his system.
He knows what it feels like to come so close to losing you.
I doubt he would ever want to jeopardize it again.
Ya’ll are getting ready to bring this beautiful baby boy into this world too.
I feel that you two will be fine,” I let her know, picking the fork up, so that I could start eating my food.
She raved about the mac and cheese, so I wanted to see it for myself. I almost started dancing in my seat when I tasted it. That’s just how good it was.
“Tell me your story with Gemini. I want to see if it tops mine, and Tyrell’s,” she said. I laughed while picking my hand up, so that I could cover my mouth, since I was still chewing my food.
“Girl, it does. My story is crazy. Sad honestly, but I’m healing, and getting to a point where I can laugh about it to keep from crying.
Just two months ago, I was living in London with my fiancé.
My fiancé wasn’t Gemini. It was another man.
We were set to get married the following weekend.
I walked in the house, prepared to tell him how much of a great time I had at the hair salon with the women in my bridal party.
I noticed that his energy was off. That’s when I learned that his childhood friend moved back, and he started having second thoughts,” I started, and Reyna gasped.
She put her hand over her mouth, not being able to believe what I was saying to her.
“I didn’t give him the opportunity to choose me, or her.
Instead, I left. I didn’t want to stay in London, so I got on a plane days later, and came to Miami.
Miami is where I’m originally from. I was staying in a hotel once I got there and then went with Gemini’s sister.
I’m best friend’s with Gemini’s sister. That’s how I know him.
I’ve always known him, but we were never friends though.
He was just my best friend’s brother. Somehow, I allowed my best friend to convince me that getting on the road with him would be therapeutic, and what I needed to forget about my ex.
I’ve been on the truck with him for almost a month now. That’s our story,” I finished.
“Amina, what the hell. Girl, that’s a damn movie,” she voiced, and I laughed at that. She was right though.
“I know. Isn’t it?” I asked her.
“I hate that that had to happen to you, but I also feel like things happen for a reason, you know? Seeing you and Gemini together… the love, and the chemistry is evident. You two look like you belong together. That’s why I asked you if you two had kids, and how long you had been together because when I saw ya’ll together, I saw love.
Love that came with marriage, and children.
I’m young, but I have an old soul. My grandma raised me, and I believe in God making adjustments to our plans.
God adjusted your plans with your ex and replaced him with Gemini.
It may be too soon for you to see it, but girl, the love is clear as day,” she finished.
That made me hopeful. It made me happy, too.
I finished eating my food, and I dished out compliment after compliment, saying how good it was.
I enjoyed my talk with Reyna. She was cool.
She had an aura about her that was so soft, and inviting.
I’ve never been the type to just dish out my business, but she set the tone where it was easy for me to do so.
I chilled with the rest of the women too.
All of them had nice personalities, just like Reyna.
From where I was sitting, I could glance over and see the men.
Of course, Gemini made his way to one of the tables where they were playing Spades.
This man had his plate in his lap, and was in on the shit talking, and the game that was going on.
You would have really thought that he was a member of the family.
Gemini had to have stayed over there with them for at least an hour.
The only reason why he ended up leaving is because Reyna made an announcement to all the guest, telling us that the time was winding down for the rental at the pavilion.
Basically, it was time to shut it down and start cleaning up.
The same way that Gemini and I came to the party and ate like we were a part of the family, we rolled our sleeves up to help clean as well.
We weren’t going to take any food to go, but we were damn near threatened to do so. We packed enough food that would last for lunch, and dinner tomorrow. After that, we went around the pavilion, saying our goodbyes.
It was one of those things where I hugged Reyna, wished her a smooth rest of her pregnancy, and labor and delivery.
I told her that I wished her marriage continued to be successful.
We didn’t have to exchange numbers. We didn’t even ask each other what our social media accounts were.
I don’t think that was the purpose of this visit today.
I don’t think Reyna was meant to be in my life for years to come.
I truly believe that God placed me at this park this evening for just enough time to talk with Reyna this one time.
I was meant to sit down with her and learn a lesson.
To have a reminder. Listening to her tell me the story about her, and her husband, and all the things that they went through to get to where they are today was the lesson.
Even down to Gemini and I sitting at that table, under that tree, witnessing a young couple celebrate the baby boy that they were getting ready to bring into this world.
It made me feel like something powerful just might come from being on this truck with Gemini. Like Reyna said, God had adjusted what I thought my life was going to be. So far, I wasn’t complaining about this adjustment. I was eager to see what was going to come out of this.
