Chapter Forty-Four

Tommy

“Sir, you can’t come through here.” A police officer says to me as I try to barrel my way through him.

“Move out of my fucking way, my girlfriend is in that building!” I shout, trying to manoeuvre around him.

“If you try to get by me once more, I will have you arrested. Please leave it with us to deal with,” he says again firmly.

We made it fifteen minutes after the police first arrived, all thanks to my lead foot on the accelerator. They’re storming the warehouse and surrounding storage units, going from door to door looking for the car.

“You’re looking in the wrong places. If he has managed to get inside and hide his car, he will be in the storage units that have access big enough to fit a car inside,” Jenson shouts over to us, eyeing the surroundings.

Freddie and George flash their badges to the officer. “We are MI5. We will take over from here.”

He takes a look over their badges before stepping back. I follow along after Jenson as the other two start to order the others around. They all seem to change tactic then, only looking at units that have roller shutters and garage style doors.

My heart races as I run from door to door, waiting for them to check inside of each. My breathe comes in quick spurts as panic overwhelms me, why isn’t she here? She has to be here. We followed the car, where is that fucker hiding her?

The light of day is slowly fading away as time passes us by. Too much time. Anything could have happened to my girl by now. What is taking them so fucking long to find her? Sam said earlier that he’s checking the CCTV of the site in case he manages to see where the car went.

“The bastard has blanked out all the cameras but… it’s a good thing really,” Sam says, eyes still glued to the screen.

“How the fuck is that a good thing?” I bark out.

“Because that means we’re definitely in the right place,” He smirks, as he continues to type away.

I don’t stop moving after that. My heart is literally breaking as each minute goes by, every one of them meaning one more minute of her being trapped with him. It feels like an eternity has passed before anything of interest comes up.

“Over here!” One of the officer’s yell, causing us all to run over.

I push my way through, trying to get as close to the man as I can but something pulls me back. Jenson has a hold of my arm, his brow furrowed as he looks at me.

“Don’t go in there, you don’t know what you might see,” He says with sympathy in his voice.

“Get your hands off me!” I roar.

Like a caged beast finally being unleashed I shove at anyone that gets in my way. I rush inside of the unit and freeze the car from earlier is parked there, right in the centre of the dark room.

We’re close!

I walk in further, scoping out the room for any sign of my girl.

The guys are in here too searching, along with all of the police, working as a team.

Freddie leads the way as the man in charge of it all, barking out orders to anyone in his radius.

I’m busy searching when the room suddenly goes quiet.

“Boss?” George says hesitantly. “You need to see this.”

He’s stood by a wall on the other side of the room.

I rush over and realise, it’s not a wall, it’s a door.

I would never have guessed it was a door at first glance, as it seamlessly blends in with the surrounding wall.

Just a handle that doesn’t quite blend in with the shelf next to it, gives it away.

I move closer, needing to know any information he might have.

He doesn’t need to say anything, everyone is looking at the same thing.

Dark crimson is pooled on the floor under the door, the dark red liquid drips down the step, making it look fresher.

The worst part though is the silence on the other side.

I hold my breathe, wishing to hear something, anything to prove she’s alive.

“Maya!” I scream. Hoping to god she hears me. I know how scared she is of the dark and being alone, that in itself is torture enough for her.

Please baby, I’m here for you.
