Chapter 4 Aspen

Aspen

“You can take a shower in my bathroom. The one in the guest bedroom isn’t working.” The lie comes out more easily than I expected. I just hope Wilder can’t hear how fast my heart is beating.

I’ve never seduced anyone before—I’m a virgin trying to play the seductress. All of this is new to me. I wonder what people would think if they knew the town’s matchmaker is as pure as the first snowfall of winter.

“I can take a look at it. It might just be a loose washer or something simple.”

“Um, no, it’s fine.” My heart races. Having him “fix” my “broken” shower wasn’t part of the plan.

But the sweet gesture only confirms Wilder is the perfect man for me.

“You can take a look at it tomorrow. We don’t want to be late for the chocolate-tasting date.

” I hold my breath, afraid to move a muscle, afraid he’ll see through my lie.

He looks at me for what feels like an eternity before finally speaking, “You’re right, we shouldn’t keep Fletcher and Ruby waiting for us at the candy shop.

“Right, we can’t keep Fletcher, the owner of the candy shop, and his employee, Ruby, waiting for us.” I sigh in relief that he hasn’t seen through my plan yet.

“I’ll make it quick.” He gives me one last look over his shoulder before disappearing into my bedroom, where the only “working” shower is in my ensuite.

Taking a deep breath, I count to one hundred in my head, giving Wilder time to get into my bathroom, take off his clothes, and set the water temperature.

Quietly slipping into my bedroom, I take off my clothes and toss them into the nearby hamper. The uncertainty of what I’m about to do hits me, and I almost change my mind until I hear Wilder’s faint moan of my name, giving me the newfound confidence to continue with my plan.
