Chapter 370 Someone Outside
Zara had no idea what had happened, but that woman was definitely responsible for knocking her unconscious.
What a humiliation.
She had never suffered a defeat like this in her life. Someone had actually managed to catch her off guard!
Just as the woman tried to flee, Zara narrowed her eyes. Her spiritual power silently swept toward the woman and dragged her backward.
One moment, the woman was running. The next, her body suddenly arched back beyond her control, as though an invisible hand had grabbed her and sent her flying in reverse.
Several people who had not made it far saw the bizarre sight and screamed again.
The roar of helicopters approached overhead. The woman was pulled all the way back to Zara's car, but just as Zara opened the door to get out, Lucian grabbed her arm.
He said, "Stay inside. The police are here, and people are still filming. You'll end up on camera."
Zara immediately caught on and ducked back into the car.
With a casual flick of her finger, the woman outside screamed. An unseen force seized her again and flung her toward another car.
She slammed into it with a heavy thud and passed out on the spot.
Lucian fell silent.
Zara turned and met the driver's eyes in the front seat.
Neither of them spoke.
Zara narrowed her eyes. "He works for you?"
Lucian glanced at the driver, who was sweating profusely.
"I... I didn't see anything, sir. I swear..."
Lucian sighed. "It's fine. He's worked for me for years. He won't say anything."
The driver nodded frantically. "I won't tell anyone!"
He might have been well trained, but all he had done was drive for the Martin family for more than a decade. No one had trained him to deal with things that completely defied the laws of physics. Of course he was terrified.
Still, he truly would not dare tell anyone.
Zara smacked her lips, still puzzled by her sudden collapse. "Something feels off..."
She had passed out far too abruptly.
Just then, the thunder of helicopters grew even louder above the street. Zara looked up and saw that several of them had already arrived.
Her phone rang as well.
She answered, and Allen's panicked voice came through. "Where are you? We've got a huge problem!"
"I'm in the car directly beneath the helicopters," Zara replied.
Allen understood immediately. After a brief silence, he asked, "Who is that woman?"
"No idea, but she and I are enemies now. Damn it, I've never been humiliated like this in my life. I nearly fell into her hands today!"
Lucian, sitting beside her, said nothing.
Allen sounded stunned. "What happened to you?"
She replied, "It's hard to explain. She's unconscious now, so come down and take her away. Oh, and..."
Zara looked around at the abandoned cars, doors hanging wide open, and the people still screaming as they fled into the distance.
"Did something serious happen?"
She had only just woken up and still had no idea what had gone on.
Allen nearly broke down. "That woman used supernatural powers in the middle of the street, and someone recorded the whole thing! There's no hiding it now!"
Zara fell silent.
As long as she had not appeared on camera, no one would know she had used her powers too, right?
She immediately turned to Lucian with suspicion. "What happened while I was out? You stayed conscious the whole time?"
[I passed out, so why didn't you?!]
Lucian was speechless.
How was he supposed to know?
"Let's go home first," he said. "I'll tell you everything once we're back."
Allen heard Lucian's voice and quickly added, "Stay calm, both of you. Don't get out until we've cleared the area. A lot of people are still filming, and the moment you step outside, someone will catch you on camera."
These people really would risk anything for a good spectacle.
Zara and Lucian stayed inside the car until armed tactical officers arrived by helicopter.
Once the woman had been taken away and everyone tacitly agreed to pretend they had seen nothing, the drivers gradually returned under the traffic police's direction and drove their cars away.
Only then were Zara and Lucian finally able to leave.
Still, the incident had undoubtedly caused widespread panic, and even if the government tried to suppress the story now, it was already too late.
For one thing, this was Magior.
A supernatural incident had taken place in public. The authorities might be able to stop the footage and news from spreading, but they could not erase the fear of everyone who had witnessed it.
Unless they could somehow silence every single driver and keep them from talking...
Either way, every relevant agency was going to be swamped for a long time.
It was a complete disaster.
Lucian had wanted to ask Zara exactly what had happened, but she said they should return home and sort everything out first, so he let the matter drop for the time being.
After they arrived, Zara did not question him in front of her younger brothers. Instead, she took him straight into her bedroom so they could talk in private.
What Wilson and Peter saw, however, was Zara and Lucian coming home and immediately disappearing into her room alone.
The two exchanged knowing looks.
"Big Sis has no shame."
"Seriously. We haven't even gone to bed yet, and she couldn't wait?"
Zara's door flew open with a bang, and two books came hurtling out. Each one struck its target with perfect accuracy.
Wilson and Peter screamed at the same time.
The door slammed shut again, and Zara turned back to Lucian. "So that woman was trying to take me, but someone stepped in and saved us?"
Lucian nodded. "That's what happened."
Zara looked puzzled.
She had already been subdued. Who else could possibly have had the power to save them?
Of course, Lucian had not told her everything. He had conveniently left out the part about the enormous wing hidden inside his body.
The wing might have been beautiful, but he had considered plenty of disturbing possibilities. The image of himself walking around with wings in a previous life was not particularly appealing.
He could only forgive their existence if they meant he had once been an angel.
Still, someone else had definitely intervened. The person had never shown himself, but he had drawn the woman's attention away. Otherwise, Zara might have been forced to fight her the moment she woke up.
Zara could not shake the feeling that something was wrong.
She had only been unconscious for ten minutes.
But in ten minutes, countless things could have happened without her knowing any of them.
That was the most frustrating part.
She also felt as though she had gone somewhere while she was unconscious, but no matter how hard she tried, she could not remember where.
The place seemed to exist somewhere deep within her memories. It had felt important and incredibly familiar, yet the memory remained stubbornly out of reach.
What was going on?
Lucian heard every word of her thoughts.
She had gone somewhere?
While she was unconscious?
A new suspicion occurred to him. Could her soul have been transported somewhere while her body remained behind?
As Zara considered the possibilities, she suddenly sensed something and immediately walked toward the window.
Her eyesight was exceptional. With a single glance, she spotted someone standing below the building and staring directly up at her floor.
Her apartment occupied the entire floor, and the residential complex had excellent security. No outsider should have been able to enter so easily.
Which meant the person had not gotten in through any ordinary means.
Zara looked more closely, and surprise flashed across her face.
Owen?
The moment Owen realized she had spotted him, he turned and hurried away.
