Chapter 407 Half of Zaras Power
Zara had never imagined that the story of her origins would be this complicated, or this absurdly dramatic.
Especially now that she knew she had originally been some kind of mysterious treasure no one could even identify.
Honestly, it was a miracle she had managed to become human at all.
But half of her power was inside Lucian?
That still did not make sense.
Why couldn't he use it?
When she voiced the question, Owen answered immediately.
"He only serves as a vessel. He isn't the same as your true self. My wife may have given birth to you, but you possess your own consciousness and body. At most, half of your power was simply stored inside him."
"That power can protect him, but he can't wield it himself. It may have given him certain unusual abilities, though. Perhaps they simply haven't manifested yet, or you haven't noticed them."
Zara finally understood.
No wonder Lucian could see spirit bodies when ordinary people from Earth could not.
No wonder he could follow her into the Divine World.
So that was the reason.
Zara fell into thought.
This entire subject was far beyond anything she knew how to deal with.
Then she remembered that this was exactly why she had come. "So what's happening inside Lucian now? Why does he keep collapsing?"
"I'm not entirely sure," Owen admitted. "But my guess is that the power inside him is becoming increasingly unstable."
"After all, it belongs to you. The stronger you become and the more of your abilities you use, the more that power responds to your call and tries to return to you." He added, "Lucian is only a vessel, not its true owner. He has no way to control it."
Zara's heart jolted. "Then what happens if the power returns to me? Will he go back to being weak and sickly like he was before?"
"No." Owen looked at her, his expression thoughtful. "He may die immediately."
Zara fell silent.
This world had officially become far too ridiculous.
She had considered countless explanations for Lucian's condition, but it had never occurred to her that it might be connected to her.
And now that it was, the situation could not have been more awkward.
If her own power returned to her, Lucian would die?
The thought was suffocating.
Owen clearly understood how devastating the revelation was. He said nothing more and slowly continued eating his food, leaving Zara to process it on her own.
The breakfast place was filled with noise and conversation, yet Zara felt as though everything around her had gone distant for a moment.
"Then... what if I don't let the power return?"
"I don't know whether that's something you can control," Owen said. "But you've probably already sensed the pattern. The more power you use, and the more skilled you become, the harder it is for him to suppress what remains inside him."
The power wanted to surge back into Zara.
And Lucian would be the one to suffer for it.
What a mess.
She had become trapped in a vicious contradiction.
She might constantly joke about inheriting Lucian's fortune, but actually letting him die because of her was an entirely different matter.
Zara frowned in thought. "That still doesn't make sense. There has to be some way to save him."
All they needed was to keep one person alive.
Surely reclaiming her power did not have to mean Lucian's death.
"That will depend on you," Owen said.
Beyond what he had already explained, he knew very little himself.
"There may be another solution. A being like you should possess inherited memories of your own. The problem is that none of us knows what you truly are."
That was the heart of the issue.
Zara was the Imperial Clan's sacred treasure, but no one knew what kind of existence she actually was.
How had she become their sacred treasure in the first place?
Where had she come from, and how had she been passed down through the Imperial Clan?
All anyone knew was that she was immensely powerful...
And dangerously unpredictable.
Zara had not expected one simple question to uncover a ticking time bomb.
She also asked about the Holy Consort. Owen told her that his wife's health had already been poor, and she had died only a few years after giving birth to Zara.
Thunderhorn had crossed over with them back then. His mother had also been pregnant, but of all the young she bore, he was the only one who survived.
The conditions for retaining power on Earth were extremely unforgiving.
Zara remained lost in thought all the way back after breakfast.
She did not even realize that her mind was now entirely occupied with finding a way to keep Lucian alive.
She had completely forgotten about inheriting his fortune.
Whether Lucian would survive was all that mattered now.
Aurelion and Pyrelion had kept quiet earlier because they were stuck inside her backpack and could not speak freely.
Pyrelion sounded astonished. "That man was the Holy Sovereign?"
He had met the Holy Sovereign before, but Owen looked so different now that Pyrelion had not dared believe it.
If Owen had not repeatedly revealed details about himself during the conversation, Pyrelion might never have realized who he was.
"Yeah," Zara answered distractedly.
Aurelion clicked his tongue. "I never would've guessed you had such an impressive identity."
She was the legendary sacred treasure of the Imperial Clan.
"Neither did I," Zara said.
Aurelion might not have known every detail, but he understood enough to grasp how outrageous the revelation was.
If word got out that Zara herself was the Imperial Clan's sacred treasure, Valerius would probably pass out from rage on the spot.
Zara had opposed him at every turn from the very beginning. How could he not lose his mind?
This would infuriate him even more than learning she was the Holy Heir.
The treasure he had pursued all this time had turned out to be Zara herself.
That was worse than having no hope at all.
It was absolute despair.
So this was why Zara counted as the Holy Heir. She had merely been born through the Holy Consort's body, which had given her the Imperial Clan's bloodline.
No wonder Zara had never felt much attachment to the idea of having biological parents.
She might possess the blood of the Upper Realm, but the real problem remained.
Even Owen did not know what she truly was.
She had been passed down through the Imperial Clan as its sacred treasure, and only the Holy Sovereigns had ever known of her existence.
Yet none of them knew what kind of being she actually was.
What was she?
A mystic beast?
Even Zara was confused.
She possessed overwhelming power and used it with complete confidence, yet she had no idea where any of it came from.
The only possible clue was the strange incident when she had been attacked and lost consciousness.
She seemed to have returned somewhere during that time, but after waking, she could barely remember it.
She only had the vague impression that it had something to do with her origins.
Perhaps Cyranth knew. After all, that ancient monster had been alive for who knew how long.
Unfortunately, she had no way to contact him for now. She would have to wait until the next time he came to see Soraya.
The immediate problem was finding a way to keep Lucian alive.
"Lucian has half of your power inside him," Aurelion said. "That means you're only using half your full strength right now."
He clicked his tongue dramatically. "Terrifying. Absolutely terrifying."
"Fascinating," Pyrelion added.
If Zara was already this powerful with only half her strength, what would she be capable of at her peak?
Earth itself might not survive her.
If she truly was some kind of sacred artifact, then her power was absurd beyond belief.
No wonder Valerius was obsessed with obtaining her.
But how had Valerius known that the treasure was Zara?
No one could possibly have guessed that.
Zara fell silent.
So how was she supposed to explain any of this to Lucian?
More importantly, she needed to restrain herself and find some way to stop the power from returning to her body.
And if the chicken wing inside Lucian belonged to her, why didn't she have one herself?
That was another impossible question.
For now, Zara decided to return to the hospital and tell Lucian what she had learned.
