EPILOGUE

Three months later

HEATHER

We’d been inseparable since our return. Rex had pretty much moved in from that first day back to Pineville. Getting our schedules to coincide had been tricky, but we had at least one day off together each week.

We filled those days with binging movies, taking naps, introducing each other to our favorite local restaurants and friends. Of course, there was plenty of horizontal naked time too.

Today was no different. Snuggled up against his toasty warm body, I swung a leg over his hips, grasped his erection, guided it to my entrance, then slowly sunk down.

Releasing a satisfied moan, I set a slow pace.

Worn out from our earlier frenzied round of lovemaking, I was looking forward to a slow build.

We never seemed to be able to go slow for long, but maybe this time.

“You are insatiable,” Rex groaned.

Locking my eyes onto his, I rocked my hips, grinning. I laced my fingers with his and sighed. “That’s why we’re perfect for each other. Well, among other things. I don’t want you thinking I’m with you only for your hot body and magical tongue. I like your brain and kindness, too.”

Rex rolled me onto my back, and I screamed, then laughed. Remaining buried deep inside me, he dipped his head and sucked a nipple into his mouth. Rolling his tongue over and around it, he pinched the other one. Oh, yes. Magical.

The first spark of an orgasm built and the look we shared in that moment stole my breath. I felt tears gather, and my heart stutter at the love I saw mirrored in his dark brown gaze.

So many thoughts ran through my mind, not the least of which was how lucky I was to have taken a chance on agreeing to a blind date for Valentine’s Day.

Gripping my hips, he held me in place, thrusting in long strokes until that sweet-sharp pull of pleasure crested. My pussy milked his cock, his roar of completion drowning out my own shout.

As our breathing evened out, Rex drew light, small circles along my back. Heaven. This is heaven.

“I can’t get enough of you. And I don’t think I ever will,” he whispered. Gathering me closer, he stretched out an over my head arm, fumbling with something on the nightstand.

“Same,” I whispered back. Too tired to pry my eyes open to see what he was up to, instead I mumbled against his chest, “What are you doing?” Tickling under his ribs, I sucked in a breath. “Rex, you’re crushing me.”

“Sorry, babe. I was just getting… something.”

I squinted, but all I could make out was an odd-shaped object pinched between his fingers. Then a glint of light flashed off it and my eyes flew open.

He cleared his throat and said, “I was waiting for the perfect time, but then it occurred to me that really anytime with you qualifies as perfect. Heather, will you marry me?”

“Yes!” Ring forgotten, I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him till I ran out of air, then kissed him again with all the love and joy in my heart.

Visions of becoming a spinster cat lady dissolved. Although, my neighbor’s cat was due any day with a litter, and I still hadn’t figured out how to tell Rex we’d be soon be parents to a ball of fur of indeterminate breed.

A long time later, he placed the ring on my finger and I bawled like a baby. He held me close. “Heather, don’t cry.”

“It’s okay. I always cry like this when I’m happy. Just ask my mom. Oh! My mom. We have to tell her.”

We went to Sunday dinner at my mom’s and surprised her with the news. Later that day, Rex called his parents to let them know.

The wedding didn’t take place somewhere exotic, but in a small church in the historic district surrounded by family and friends.

My brother Sam gave me away. Tamara was my matron of honor, her stomach round with her and Stefan’s baby boy.

Miranda, my sister-in-law Evie, and Kiersten were my bridesmaids.

Rex’s partner, Austin, was his best man.

His brother West, along with his best friends from Pineville’s Fire & Rescue were groomsmen, Paxton and Hunter.

At the reception, I danced in my husband’s arms, a perma-smile on my face.

I thought back to the day Miranda had told me she had the perfect guy to set me up with.

Along with Rex’s sister Kiersten’s help, they’d put the man of my dreams on that plane, saving me from becoming the grumpy cat lady I’d felt certain I’d turn into.

I couldn’t wait to return the favor and help them both find their own happily ever after.

But first the honeymoon— back to where our love had grown thanks to my very own Cupid. And if all went as planned, a new life would begin.
