This partying shit was getting played out. I’d been to so many day parties, lounges, and clubs this week that I’d lost track. I didn’t even know what day it was until Isaac started complaining about his sister spending Valentine’s Day alone back in Rose Valley Hills.
I could admit, I was attracted to Eli and had a little crush on her since we met about eight years ago.
Isaac came with the typical my sister is off-limits spiel, so I never allowed myself to consider anything happening between us.
The closer Isaac and I got, the more I was able to get to know Eli, which made me like and respect her more.
Regardless of how much I liked her, I’d never try to cross that line with her. Too much was at stake.
Not only did Isaac and I have to be in sync for the team, but we were best friends as well. Plus, football was all I had. I wouldn’t risk destroying our record, my image, or my friendship for romance. Love took too much effort, and everything I had, I put on the field.
“Fuck,” Isaac grumbled, hopping from his seat.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, ready to handle whatever had his brows wrinkling and a frown covering his face.
As his hand slid down his face, Isaac sighed. “I sent baby love some shit earlier, but I wasn’t expecting things to go left. She caught her nigga cheating”—his eyes lifted and met mine—“with her best friend.”
“Damn! Is she good? I mean . . . I know she’s not good . . . but damn.”
Honestly, I was at a loss for words. I would have had empathy for anyone in her situation, but it was especially frustrating knowing someone was treating a woman I cared about so horribly.
She didn’t deserve that shit, and Justin was a damn fool to cheat on her with Natasha or anyone else for that matter.
While I wasn’t na?ve enough to believe Eli was perfect, she was close.
She was kind, sincere, fun, loyal, and too good for his bitch ass.
If I ever had a chance with her, not only would I treat her well enough to never lose her, but I’d make sure the world knew how to come behind a woman that was a man’s treasure.
The more I thought about it, the angrier I got.
“She’s at my house. Physically she’s good, but I can tell she’s messed up mentally and emotionally. She keeps telling me to stay here until tomorrow, but I think I’ma leave tonight.”
“Yeah, I don’t blame you. I’m sure you wanna pay that nigga a visit too.”
“Hell yeah,” he confirmed, returning his attention to his phone. “I already know how baby sis coming, so I’m sure she gave Natasha the business, and Justin gon’ have to see me.”
My gaze shifted toward the bottle girl who had been flirting with me all night, which was nothing new.
She had one more time to flirt before I gave her what she was asking for.
It hadn’t been my intention to get some pussy tonight, but now, I felt like I needed a distraction.
The more I thought about what was going on with Eli, the more I’d want to go to her.
While we did have something like a friendship, I wouldn’t say we were close enough to explain to her brother why I was clinging to her trying to make sure she had everything she needed during this time.
“Is there anything else I can help you with?” ol’ girl asked as I finally sat back down.
“You can bring us the check.”
“Cool. Um, do you have anything else planned for the night?”
“Nah. You know of any other events happening in the city?” I asked to check her temperature.
Though I felt like she was trying to fuck, I still wanted to be sure.
A lot of women just wanted the chance to say they slept with an athlete, while others thought the dick came with trips, gifts, and cash.
Either way, I’d had my fair share of easy pussy before and after my NFL career started, so the power of pussy didn’t sway me.
Tonight was different though.
Tonight, I needed something, someone, to keep me from going to Eli to console her. I wasn’t sure why my heart was yearning to be close to hers. Yeah, she was going through a tough time, but she probably wouldn’t have even wanted me around.
“I know of a very special event happening in my bedroom.” Her smile was sexy as she leaned forward and put the silver tray holding ice and a new bottle of champagne on the table. “Or yours. Whichever you’d prefer.”
All I could do was chuckle as I looked from her pushed up breasts to her pretty ass face. I wouldn’t say I had a type, but ol’ girl was bad as fuck. Curvy, pretty face, long bundles in her hair, immaculate makeup, sexy brown skin.
“Aye, I’m ’bout to take the jet home,” Isaac said, gaining my attention.
It didn’t surprise me that he decided to leave tonight.
Regardless of the issues he and his sister had over the years, they were always there for each other when it counted most. They might have given each other hell at times, but no one else could.
They were truly each other’s protectors.
“You need me to come with you?” I checked, wrapping my arm around ol’ girl and setting her on my lap. I’d need to find out what her name was before I fucked her. It would come up when she signed her NDA.
“Nah, I’m good. Enjoy yourself.”
We shook hands, and I waited until he left to pull my phone out and call my lawyer.
Before I left this club with ol’ girl, there were a few things she’d need to understand and sign.
I hadn’t made it this far in my career without any scandals, being dumb and reckless, and I certainly wasn’t about to start now.
