Chapter Four

Allison

After a recovery day on the couch with a greasy burger, lots of water, and pain relievers yesterday, I’m back at work. I have a home office set up in my second bedroom. It’s pink and white with gold accents and decked out with all the latest social media recommended accoutrements.

My phone rings and I answer with, “Moore Than Words, how may I help you?”

“Good morning, cutie.”

“Good morning, handsome. How may I help you today?”

“I emailed the specs on the protein shake. I included a photo so you could add it to the store and the offerings tab.”

“Okay, I can get started on all that today, but you know you didn’t have to call. I would have seen the email.”

“I wanted to hear your voice this morning.”

“Oh brother, you’ve been single for forty-eight hours and already hitting on me?”

“Maybe.”

“Well, for the record, it’s nice to hear your voice as well.”

“That’s good to know. Have a great day, Allison.”

“You too. Bye, Grant.”

“Bye.”

I get backto work, pulling up Grant’s email to get started on the new product description. By the time I’m finished, it’s time for lunch. I stand, stretch, and make my way to the kitchen and take out my pre-prepped salad. I add the vinaigrette dressing and sit at my kitchen table. It’s just a little two-top I purchased second-hand when I moved in. I play around on my phone and see an ad for that Oliver Hudson book I was talking about the other night at the bar. I had forgotten all about it after my night with Daveed. I quickly download it to my e-reader app and start reading. The hardcover is also on its way. I’m an avid reader and feel bad for giving that Oliver guy a hard time about it but come on, there’s a time and place for it, and a bar is certainly not the place.

Just as I’m bookmarking my page to get back to work, Morgan calls.

“Hey Ally, sorry I didn’t call you yesterday. I spent all day wrapped up in bed. It was glorious.”

“Uh, huh. What was his name?”

“Jack. Jake. John? Something that starts with a ‘J’.”

“I thought you said you were ready for something more serious.”

“Ally, it’s been a month. A month! I was running out of batteries,” she exclaims.

“Oh my gosh, Morgan. I did not need to know that.” I laugh.

“I can’t be on the hunt for something serious if my head is only thinking about getting one thing.”

“Whatever you have to tell yourself.”

“Enough about me. What happened with you and Daveed?”

“Meh.” I sigh.

“Seriously? You two didn’t look, meh, Saturday night. What happened?”

“We definitely had chemistry but, I don’t know, I just didn’t think we clicked intellectually at the last bar. However, he did offer me a free dance lesson, so that’s not all bad.”

“Really? He clearly likes you.”

“I guess,” I say.

“Go and see how you feel about him, I mean at least you get an hour with that sexy man’s arms around you.”

“I knew you were my best friend for a reason. I like the way you think.”

“When do you go?” she asks.

“Tomorrow.”

“Nice. Look, I gotta run. Talk to you later.”

“Okay, bye, Morgan.”

“Bye, babe.”

We disconnect and I finally get back to work.

When I’m finishedfor the day, I change into my yoga outfit and roll out my mat in front of the large picture window in my living room. After sitting all day, stretching out all the sore muscles is a perfect way to relax and find my Zen. Forty-five minutes later, I’m all loosey-goosey and feel oh so good. My stomach rumbles and I run to the little market near my apartment to pick up a pre-made meal of roasted chicken and vegetables for dinner.
