Chapter 55
Chapter Fifty-Five
Kash
When Seth and I got closer, I pull around to a large building a short distance from where Mila’s phone signal was pinging from. I didn’t want to chance being seen, and I’m glad that I did.
No sooner do I park and turn the engine off then a scream cuts through the night. Rage fills me when I realize it’s coming from the cabin. Mila. Someone is hurting my Sunshine.
Whoever it is, I’m going to kill them. As slowly and painfully as I can muster. I’m going to break every single finger they used to touch my girl, and then I’m going to take their eyes out.
Seth turns to me, his face full of concern. I’m almost out of the car when he stops me. “Hold on. Here.” He hands me one of the bats he grabbed from his car. I have no idea why everyone seems to carry these around anymore, but I’m pretty sure each of us has one. Now it’s starting to make sense.
“Why the fuck is there a sock on it?”
Rolling his eyes, Seth gives me an exasperated look. “I saw a video once about it. If you have an intruder and they try to grab the bat away, they get the sock and you still have your bat.”
That’s brilliant. I can use it to wipe the blood off my hands later. “I love you, man.”
“Shut the fuck up.”
Rushing toward the cabin, bat in hand, I pray I get to her in time.
I pray she’s not hurt, and that I don’t lose her.
I can’t lose her. I yell for Seth to call the police as I move toward the windows.
I don’t see anything at first, but then I hear a scuffle coming from inside.
Moving toward a side door, I test to see if it’s unlocked.
If it isn’t, I’ll just kick it down, but it seems luck is on my side. It’s open.
Quietly opening the door, I step through, bat gripped tightly in my hand. I hear voices coming from the next room, so I make my way toward there. I know Seth is outside, and the police are on their way. If there’s anyone else here, he’s got my back.
Walking into the room, I find a dark-haired man straddling Mila’s body. His legs are on either side of her small waist, and I see red. He just signed his death warrant. He’s spewing bullshit, but I don’t hear any of it because he just undid his belt buckle and is going for his pants.
Hell fucking no.
“If you put your pencil dick anywhere near me, I swear it’s going to be your funeral,” Mila threatens. Her hands are tied in front of her, thrashing at him while she glares. That’s my girl.
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep.” This fucking creep is a dead man.
Walking up behind them, I lift the bat and get ready to split his skull open.
I don’t want my girl covered in his blood, so I need to be careful where I hit him.
I’ll bash his skull in when he’s not on top of her.
Stepping closer, I see her struggling under him and my mind goes blank.
A blanket of white noise washes over me, and I let my instincts guide me.
“I’ll fucking keep them instead.”
Swinging the bat at the guy’s surprised face, I clip his shoulder when he moves back.
Fucking pussy. He hollers, grabbing his arm and scrambling onto his feet, but he’s not faster than me.
I’m fueled by murderous rage, and nothing but his still heart in my hands is going to satisfy my anger. I don’t know who he is, but he’s dead.
I pull my arm back, getting ready to swing again when he reaches out for the bat. God bless Seth and his socks, because the stupid bastard gets the sock and I keep the bat. Clenching it tighter between my fists, I slam it into his rib cage, feeling bone give way.
He howls in pain, making me smile.
“Fuck! You fucking prick!” He’s shouting and holding his side, trying to move still.
Glancing back, I see Seth has Mila and is untying her arms. Nodding to him, I silently ask him to take her outside.
He nods in reply, but I know he called the police, and that means my time is limited.
Turning back toward the soon-to-be-dead man, I’m met with a fist to the side of my face.
Mila’s pleas for me to let it go fall on deaf ears.
My anger is dulling any pain that I’ll no doubt feel later on.
I’ve grappled with Seth enough to know this fucker is going to go down hard.
His swings are sloppy, and his breathing is a bit off.
That hit to the ribs was pretty hard—no doubt each one of those breaths feels like torture.
I swing the bat at his leg, but the fucker grabs it again, this time pulling it from my grip. That’s fine by me. Rushing forward, I grab around his waist and lift him off his feet. The bat goes flying and as soon as the sack of shit hits the ground, I climb on top and unleash all my pent-up fury.
I rest all my of my weight on his waist and rain blow after blow down on him.
One hit for talking to my girl to start with.
Another punch for taking her. I feel his nose crunch under my fist, warm blood spurting out.
That’s for the handprint I saw on her face.
I hit him over and over like a man possessed, each time thinking of a new transgression that must be answered for.
Her fear, breathing the same air as her, tying her up, thinking he had any business existing near my Mila. My Sunshine. My everything.
Grabbing his shirt at the collar, I pull him up so I can stare into his eyes. “I don’t know who the fuck you are, but I’m going to end your existence and dump your body in an unmarked grave.”
“Fuck you.” His bloody and busted lip curves into a sadistic smile.
“No thanks, you’re not my type.” Slamming his head against the ground, I get to my feet. He rolls around the floor, moaning and holding his busted ribs. “Not laughing now, are you?”
Picking up the bat, I grip it and slam it against one leg, then the other. The bat vibrates with each swing against his bones. It’s not enough. He took my girl and hurt her. There’s no telling what he would have done if I hadn’t been here. For that alone, I’m going to take his life.
Moving my hair out of the way, I lean down so I can look straight into his eyes. He’s crying, broken and beaten on the floor. Blood pools around us, and I’m not the least bit worried when I see the red-and-blue lights bouncing off the walls.
“I could kill you and not think twice, but death is more than you deserve. You’re going to suffer for what you did.
” I nudge his side with my foot, relishing in the way he groans.
Grabbing the bat, I wipe the blood off using part of his shirt.
Strands of hair have fallen in my face, and I take a moment to push them back again.
The rushing footfalls of the police greet me as I take a seat in the only chair next to the table. “Thanks for showing up, fellas. He should go willingly.”
The man groans softly on the floor in response. Turning my head to the new arrivals, I find Cassie standing among the other officers. “Oh hell, Kash. What’d you do?” Her eyes dart between the prone, bloody form on the floor and me.
“Nothing worse than what he was doing to my girl. Where’s Mila?”
Cassie motions for me to follow her while the others tend to the man wishing he were dead on the floor. He’s not going anywhere.
“Kash, this is bad,” she starts, concern covering her face.
“He’s not dead,” I point out.
“Yeah. Thanks for that,” she responds dryly. “You saved me all sorts of paperwork, but we have a problem.”
“It can wait. Where’s Mila?”
“She’s outside, but, Kash—”
“Am I being arrested?”
“No, but—”
“Okay. Perfect.” I head for the exit, needing to see my girl with my own eyes.
I need to see she’s fine. Going outside, the crisp night air greets me, and then Mila’s body slams into mine.
I wrap her tightly in my arms, and when her vanilla scent fills my lungs, I feel like I can finally breathe again.
Pulling back, I kiss her deeply and hug her against my chest. When I realized something happened to Mila, I’d never felt fear like that.
But that fear quickly morphed to rage when I saw that fucker sitting on top of her.
He fucking hit her and put marks on her body.
I need to know what happened, but there’s a chance I’ll go to jail because I’m likely to murder the fucker when I find out.
Breaking the kiss, I stare into Mila’s eyes. “Are you okay, Sweet Girl?” It’s a stupid question. I know she’s not okay. Running my hands across her body, she squirms in my hold.
“I’m fine, Kash.”
“You’re not fine,” Seth interrupts. “You likely have a concussion, Mila.” Looking at me, he adds, “She refused treatment until she knew you were okay.”
“Not okay, Sunshine. We’re going to the hospital. Now.”
“Kash, I don’t need the...” Her voice fades out as her body goes limp in my arms.
“Mila! Mila, Sweetheart, wake up,” I beg, fear seizing my heart. Scooping her into my hold, I run toward the waiting ambulance. “Help! She fainted.”
They rush over, making me lay her on a stretcher. I follow behind them, getting ready to step in when one of them turns to stop me. “Save your breath. I’m getting in here and I’m not leaving her side.”
“I’ll meet you guys there.” Seth jogs back over toward the building where we left my car.
Right before the doors to the ambulance close, I hear Cassie’s voice call out, “Damn it, Kash. I need a statement!”
“Well, you know where I’ll be,” I shout as the door closes, and we speed off into the night.
I hope like hell they take him to another hospital, because if I find out my girl has any more injuries, or he did something I haven't discovered yet, he’s going to be visiting another part of the hospital.
The morgue.
