Epilogue
“I can’t believe I’m back here,” I said, standing at the back door of the spa for the first time in a month. It took a few weeks before Tovis thought it was safe for us to venture so far from camp, but I’d been telling the girls about the spa and everyone was eager to see it.
“I’m excited,” Hope said. “I’ve never had a spa day.”
I twisted the doorknob and stepped inside, cool air washing over me, the scent of my diffusers still lingering. After weeks of living in a tent, and hanging out by the fire, it felt like stepping into another world.
“Wow,” Naomi gasped, the woman lived apart from the camp with her mate and I’d only met her yesterday. Someone had checked in on them after the battle, and warned them about the sytos but the couple had kept their distance.
Hope and Taz had insisted on stopping in to see if they wanted to come with us, and we’d spent the night in their library turned bunker before making the trek back to the spa.
Naomi’s mate, Carn, seemed pretty nice for a male exiled from his people, but Hope had assured me it was better for everyone that they lived apart.
I wandered into the main area, taking in the artificial lights and the boot tracks over the floor. This had been my home and my haven for months but looking at it now, I didn’t miss it at all.
It had been safe, and comfortable enough, but just the scent of lavender essential oil in the air triggered a rush of loneliness I was glad was in my past. The camp was crowded, loud and chaotic, but never lonely.
Penny’s sisters had come with us, and both made a bee line for the massage chairs.
“I can’t believe you had power,” Tamra marveled as she pressed a button and the chair went to work. “We had a generator, but Dad rationed our gas and we only got hot water once a week for showers.”
“No shower here,” I admitted. “But I took sink baths.”
“Massage chairs, hot, running water and nail polish,” Lena grinned beside her sister. “Poor Penny is missing out.”
Amy and Penny hadn’t been able to come. Amy wasn’t up for travel so soon after the twins’ birth and Penny was getting too close to the end of her pregnancy to risk it. Tovis, Carn and Aeko had escorted us here, and the males looked around the spa curiously.
Tovis walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist.
“Do you miss it?” he asked. I shook my head.
“No. This place served its purpose and kept me safe, but I didn’t have a future here.”
I watched as Naomi moved over to a massage chair and dropped into it, letting her crutches fall to the floor with a clatter.
“Matching mani-pedis or is everyone doing their own thing?” she asked as she turned on her chair. The moment it started vibrating she melted into it. “Oh, my shoulders needed this.”
“You’re sore?” Carn asked, striding toward her with a frown on his face.
“I don’t care what you guys pick,” Lena declared, lunging out of her chair and toward the wall of nail polish. “But I’m getting the closest shade of blue to Uriish’s.”
“He’ll love that,” Tamra muttered. “He’s a prick. I don’t know why you won’t give up on octopus head and flirt with somebody who’ll actually give you the time of day.”
“He’s a hot prick,” Lena said defensively. “And he’s not that bad.”
“Come,” Tovis whispered, tugging me away from the sprawl of people who’d taken over the spa. It had been empty for so long, it felt a little surreal to see it crowded with people and conversation again.
“What’s up?” I asked as he shut the door to the supply room behind us and tugged me back into his arms.
“I couldn’t do this last night,” he murmured, hitching my leg up over his hip and kissing me again. “No walls in Carn’s home.”
My brows rose as he rocked against me and I realized what he was planning.
“They’ll hear us,” I scolded him, not even trying to get away as one of his hands curled around my butt and he slid his fingers into my underwear.
“They’re distracted,” he countered, pushing me up against the door and ensuring no one would be able to walk in on us.
“What brought this on?” I gasped, eyes closing when he thrust two fingers into me and made every muscle clench at the invasion.
“This is the first place I saw you,” he whispered. “And I saw a lot of you.”
I moaned, half in arousal and half in embarrassment. “You’re not allowed to be turned on by the memory of seeing me wax my pussy.”
“Why not? It’s almost recovered from your abuse.”
I blushed at the laughter in his voice, but he was right, the ridiculous naked patch was almost gone and I’d resolved to never put myself in that situation again. Tovis didn’t care if I had hair down there, and I was no longer so desperate for distraction that I’d put myself through it.
“Stop teasing your mate,” I ordered him, lifting onto my toes as he played with me, his warm body crushing into the door.
In reply, he thrust forward, his cock filling me in a single motion and I groaned before I could stop myself and slapped a hand over my mouth to muffle anymore sounds.
Tovis grabbed my other leg, lifting me fully off the floor and started hammering into me.
Every thrust had me seeing stars and I bit my lip and hung on for dear life as he forced a quick, shocking orgasm out of me.
As soon as I clenched around him, he groaned and kissed me as he followed me over the edge.
I clung to his shoulders, knowing my legs wouldn’t hold me yet and pressed my face to his neck.
Tovis was the best thing that had ever happened to me, and I still marveled at the series of random events that had brought us together.
He claimed I was meant to be his, and I couldn’t help but feel like he was right.
He groaned and slowly pulled out of me, and I glanced around the room looking for something to clean up with, so I didn’t have to do the walk of shame to the bathroom.
As if reading my thoughts, Tovis set me on my feet and snagged a clean towel off a nearby shelf.
“You’re beautiful, mate,” he murmured, voice rough and low with pleasure. I blushed as I wiped myself down.
“I love you,” I said. “But I hope you know everyone is going to tease us when we go back out there.”
He shrugged, the movement loose and relaxed as he cupped my chin and stole a kiss.
“They’re our friends, the teasing isn’t meant to sting.”
“I know,” I muttered against his lips. “Still embarrassing.”
His mouth twitched and I knew I’d just set myself up. Something scratched at the door and Tovis pulled it open, Sal and Carn’s tiny mutt darted inside, sniffing around our feet curiously.
“What’s going on back there?” Taz yelled. “Sounded like you were moving furniture around.”
Tovis grinned down at me, eyes sparkling with mischief.
“I was worshipping Jessa’s feet, she told me all human women love to have their feet gentled,” he called back. There was a beat of dead silence and I covered my face, laughing despite myself.
“You freak!” Taz howled, sliding into view, one hand held up, the nails sparkly red with fresh polish, her eyes wide.
“I did not tell him that!” I said, my cheeks burning. “I told him some people are into feet and he’s been punishing me for it.”
“Was I supposed to play with your feet?” I heard Aeko ask in a confused voice.
“No!” Hope choked out. “Jessa, what have you done?”
“I’m sorry,” I giggled, loving the crazy, shameless banter that always seemed to sprout among the women I’d come to call friends.
The last time I’d been in this building I’d just begun to hope I wouldn’t spend the rest of my life alone, and now I had a mate and so many people in my corner it was overwhelming.
“Poor Naomi,” Lena cackled. “Carn’s eye fucking the only foot she has and she can’t run away from him.”
I stumbled back into the spa, and saw that Carn was indeed eyeing his mate’s foot, and Naomi was clutching the arms of her chair, and laughing so hard she was in danger of falling off.
“Feet are so gross,” Hope said, frantically trying to cover her bare toes as if she had to physically shield them from any ideas Tovis might have given her mate.
“No part of you is gross,” Aeko assured her, his face a mask of confusion and speculation. “But I don’t know how to pleasure them.”
“No foot stuff!”
Tovis slung his arm over my shoulders and smiled at the chaos he’d created.
“You’re not going to let this go, are you?” I asked.
He shook his head. “Never.”
“You guys are freaks,” Taz said, swaggering past us and reclaiming her open bottle of nail polish. “I’m definitely telling everyone you’re into that shit.”
Not so long ago, this spa had been my only source of comfort. But looking at my friends and pressed to Tovis’ side, I knew I’d never be alone again.
