Chapter 22
LEAH
“Arms up, little one.” The vampire’s voice is hazy in the back of my head. I feel heavy and warm. There’s something soft under me. My lids crack open.
Bed. Huh. I must be very dirty on my fresh sheets. Normally, I think I’d care. Right now, I feel like I’m all body and no brain.
I yawn. Whatever.
A cool hand on my arm. “Come on. You’re drenched in blood.”
“Vampires…are very annoying.” I snuggle deeper. He hefts me up, and I make a noise of protest.
“I know,” he croons. “I know. I was too rough. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” Can vampires feel distraught? I think he is. I pat at the part of his body I can reach. A cheek. Oh.
“S’okay. I liked it.” I really liked it. “Never felt like that before.” I yawn again. No werewolf or warlock has ever made me come like that. “You’re good in bed. Or in a tub.”
His lips brush my forehead as his hands draw my shirt up my body. “I took advantage of you. I hurt you.”
Cool breeze blows across my skin. That’s better.
“No shirt,” I mumble.
He sighs. “As you wish. No shirt.”
He lays me back down and I sink into the bed. There’s a sound of the curtains, then the bed dips with his weight. I scoot closer. He’s cool and calm, and I want to hug him the way I want to stick my head in the fridge on a hot day.
I wonder briefly if he will make a good pillow.
“Leah.” He shudders as my head lands on his chest. “You should have forced me off you.”
Mmph. I’m halfway to sleep, and the vampire is talking nonsense.
“We cannot do that again.”
“Bite me,” I mumble.
He chuckles. “Definitely not.” His hand passes over my hair, and I curl into his touch.
Before I fall into the darkness, I swear I hear him ask, “Why didn’t you use your magic today?”
I frown to myself.
I don’t have magic.
