Lucien

T he moment Evelyn and Alister hit the ground, they disappeared.

Evelyn’s scream still rang in my ears. It felt like the world had shifted on its axis, leaving us spinning in a void of shock and disbelief.

Panic surged through me, a torrent of emotions threatening to drown me. I whirled around to face the others, my mind racing.

“Where did they go?” I demanded.

Rafe’s face was pale. He stared at the empty space where Evelyn and Alister had been, his eyes wide with horror.

“I…can’t feel her,” he stammered. “Could they be in the Shadow Realm?”

Chad’s eyes became wild and frantic as he screamed, “Where’s Evelyn?”

Ryker looked at us with pleading eyes, desperation etched into his features. “This can’t be happening.”

I clenched my fists, feeling the cool glass of a potion vial pressing into my palm. It was a grounding sensation, something to focus on amidst the chaos.

“We need to stay calm,” I said, trying to steady my voice. “Panicking won’t help us find them.”

I can’t lose her.

I made her believe I didn’t want her.

My mate.

I had to find a way to get them both back.

“But they were skewered,” Chad said, his voice breaking. “Right through the heart. And those black flames…How can anyone survive that?”

“I don’t know,” I admitted as my world shattered.

“Something’s happening,” Rafe said suddenly.

I turned to see his wings fading, his expression one of shock. “My wings are gone!”

“Gone?” I frowned. “What do you mean?”

“I can’t shift,” Chad said in panic.

“Me either,” Ryker growled.

Around us, murmurs and cries erupted.

I tried to summon my magic, but there was nothing—a void stood where my power used to be. “I think all supernatural beings have been rendered powerless.”
