Thane

The blood beneath my skin boils as the thoughts of earlier come rushing back. Tossing the dog food had been one thing. I almost admired her vigor to fight back, but she had taken it too far this time. It’s a miracle she’s still breathing, and a part of me wonders why that is.

If anyone else had tried something like that, they’d be dead in less than a heartbeat, and yet in that moment, I fought every instinct telling me to end her life.

It goes against everything I am and everything I have become since claiming the title of Alpha.

What would the others think if they knew she had spit in my face and gotten away with it?

Of course, I’d kill anyone who even hinted at the idea that I might not be fit to be Alpha, but once a seed of doubt is planted, it’s quick to spread.

Weakness is unacceptable, and mercy is unthinkable. If I can’t bring myself to take her life, then I’ll just have to make living as my pet even worse than death itself.
