Epilogue

PORCHA

"It's not big enough," I said as I put down the floor plan and turned towards the door. "Let's go on to the next one."

"This one is so nice, though," Lamia said. "How is six bedrooms not enough?"

"Lamia," I said. "It isn't just the number of bedrooms. There has to be a separate cottage on the property that I can use as my filming studio. There is no way I'm going to be able to record videos in a house with two newborns."

"You know you can take a break from that for a bit," Lamia said as she set the floor plan down on the countertop. "You know Voknar will support you if you choose not to work at all."

"Of course I know that," I said. "And I don't discount that as a possibility as something I might desire.

It is important to give myself options so I can do what I want when I want to.

I'm not going to assume anything about what my postpartum needs will be, so it is important to plan for all possibilities. "

"What about you guys?" Lamia asked, turning towards the two brothers who were looking out into the backyard. "Do you have any opinions on this one?"

"It could be made to work," Vlacul said.

"It is unacceptable," Voknar said. "It must have an appropriate workspace for Porcha."

Lamia laughed and turned back towards me. "Fine, you're just lucky that the Norratar banned corporate ownership over single-family housing and that there is now a glut of available homes on the market. On to the next one it is!"

We all piled into the small aircraft that was parked in the driveway.

It looked like a large van as it had been designed to blend in with Earth-style vehicles, but it was an alien hovercraft.

There were a few of them in the air around the cities nowadays.

Voknar took the pilot position, his brother up front with him, and I nestled in the back with Lamia.

I would learn to drive it at some point, but right now, there was a certain delight to be found in being driven around the city in a flying car like an alien celebrity.

"I'm so glad Voknar came to visit and you guys hit it off," Lamia said with a happy sigh. "This is working out perfectly. I'm so happy. Are you happy?"

She reached out and grabbed my hand as she asked that, her eyes shimmering with delight.

I squeezed her hand and nodded as I leaned in close and lowered my voice.

"He's the best lay I've ever had," I whispered.

Lamia giggled.

"Well, let's keep making this the best life for all of us," Lamia smiled at me.

I leaned over and put my head on her shoulder, watching the world go by beneath us. Life was how we defined it, and with the help of a contract and a little bit of determination, together we were making it utterly beautiful.
