40. Chapter Forty
Chapter Forty
“Well, I guess I didn’t get the memo, did I? Did my wife tell you I fucked her before she came here? I bet she left that little detail out of your conversation. Yes, I fucked her and then I made her swallow, Nikos. Did you know that in all the years we’ve been together she’s only allowed me to come on her face once? Her fucking face, Nikos! That’s how close I got to having her swallow. And you come along and she’s transformed into this wicked cum-starved creature swallowing sperm for breakfast, lunch, and dinner like it’s fucking candy! Can you believe that?”
I hear a door creak and another one click shut and I walk toward the front door, trying to lure them outside but Tom is unwavering, a hard, unforgiving grin on his face.
“Don’t mistake my generosity for weakness, sweetheart. This ends right now because I sure as hell won’t lose you over your fucking boss. I think I remember telling you that.”
“Tom, p—”
“Shut the fuck up, Lisa! You see, Nikos, I always knew my wife was a wild card. But I never thought that she’d be wild enough to get me to agree to let her fuck another man while she was married to me, you know? And her boss, no less. Quite the little slut you turned out to be, huh, Lisa?”
I look away, embarrassed that he’s doing this in front of my boss and at the hotel where I work no less, where I know that any occupied rooms close by can hear everything that’s being said.
“I think that’s inappropriate, Tom. You don’t have to embarrass her like that.”
“Embarrass her? I think she’s doing a damn good job at that all by herself, don’t you think? I mean, clearly, you’re in love with her, man. Look at you. And look at me.”
The long drawn-out pause that follows does nothing to lighten the heavy mood and I pull Tom’s arm, trying to get him outside.
“You’d better keep your damn hands off her from now on or get ready to face the consequences. Better not test me, man.”
“I can deal with the consequences, Tom. I don’t need your threats or your warnings.”
I watch as my husband takes another step closer to Nikos until both men are face to face, their faces only inches apart. “You’ve had your fun with my wife, man. Now, get the hell out of our lives.”
I wait, my heart beating a thousand times a minute as they measure each other up, and I breathe a sigh of relief when I see Tom finally turn around and walk away, the irony of this happening on his birthday adding more salt to the wound. I hear another door click and watch Nikos get behind the reception desk, his eyes dark and clouded. He hands me my bag without saying a word, and I take it, blaming myself for the mess I created of two good men. It’s only when Tom drives me back home that I reach for my cigarettes, taking the packet in my hands and noticing Nikos’s handwritten note on it.
Thank you for the memories
