35. Chapter 35
Nerves tangled Izzy’s tongue as Daxton waited for a response. Naked skin warmed under his gaze. The intimate breeze between her thighs created a wisp of sensitivity in her core.
Laughter bubbled up inside her, brimming her eyes with tears. How did I live without this—without him?
“Izzy…?” Daxton’s lips feathered her thigh, tickling.
Her thighs heated under his mouth. Her clit throbbed. What would it feel like to have him kiss her there?
She mustered a meek “yes,” as she stared at his long, hard body lying between her legs.
He growled against her and lowered himself. When his breath caressed her receptive skin, her muscles flexed. Need punched through her abdomen.
“Daxton, please…” she moaned, head thrashing back.
Hot lips and tongue descended upon her, and every thought left her mind. Electricity jumped through her nerves from the warm, wet contact of his tongue. He groaned against her, as if he couldn’t get enough. His tongue turned forceful.
Her hands clenched the sheets. She whimpered as she ascended a peak. Amid the delicious shocks overtaking her, an invasion in her flesh caused a slight twinge of discomfort. Her body accommodated his finger, and she clenched her legs.
“Relax, Izzy,” he murmured between lapping, calming her.
He’s so good at that, anticipating my needs.
“And stop thinking too much.” His eyes met hers over the expanse of her naked flesh, and he sucked on her clit.
Muscles clenched around his finger. Tiny shock waves ricocheted up her body. She whimpered. “Please…I’ll…yes…”
He sucked on her as he moved his hand. The brief sting of stretched flesh transformed into more delicious shocks.
It felt as if he was touching her bundle of nerves from both the outside and inside.
Her breathing hitched, and her head whipped back and forth.
When he inserted a second digit, her pleasure overwhelmed the discomfort.
She was going to explode. “Yes…yes…”
He pulled away. She cried out in a dazed, high voice. Daxton removed his pants. His throbbing member sprang free. From the stark heat in his eyes, his desire matched hers.
When he kissed her, she panted against his lips.
He rubbed the broad tip of his cock against her, igniting jolts in her inner tightening walls.
She pulled his body toward her and tried to cradle him, but he continued to rub himself against her wetness.
A keening sound lifted from her throat. Daxton quieted her with a kiss.
He positioned himself at her entrance and pushed inside.
Stinging flourished, followed by a tightening sensation.
He moved the pad of his thumb against her, melting the discomfort away into passion.
He moved out and in again, grunting as he slid in deeper.
All the while, he fingered her bundle of nerves, keeping the pain minimal until he filled her in one fluid thrust.
Daxton’s hoarse cry matched hers. He shifted, and the ache eased. He held her hips as he plunged with slow, powerful thrusts. Utter bliss poured into her, building.
The moment he bent over and his tongue slid over her nipple, her muscles pulsed, and an explosion rippled through her every cell.
She tried to scream, but the free fall muted her voice.
Stars dotted the ceiling. He thrust harder, hitting deeper, over and over.
She soared ever higher, reaching the cosmos.
He grunted and tensed with release, his entire physique shaking.
As he came, still thrusting, he grunted against her neck.
Warm, haggard breaths brushed her collarbone.
Her ears rang as the world shifted. She molded onto the bed like a melted coating.
Gasping, her mind was a dazzle of fireworks.
Daxton hovered on top of her, his eyes dazed.
Slowly, the sound of their heavy breathing returned.
Daxton dragged himself off her, sending aftershocks through her body.
He settled beside her, their faces close as he trailed his fingers down her arm.
She pressed a hand to her jack-hammering heart.
The link overflowed with concern, a more fluid connection that made her feel the concern as if she were the source.
What is he worried about? He had given her utter euphoria.
He lifted his eyebrows in the gray-lit room—a quiet inquiry.
The smile broke over her face. She nuzzled into his shoulder to hide her overwhelming joy.
He chuckled and glided tickling fingers across her naked shoulders, creating goosebumps.
“What do you think will happen next with the link?” she asked.
“I’m not sure. It already feels stronger.” He brushed stray hair behind her ear. “Whatever it is, we’ll face it together.”
“Together.” She nestled into his chest, exhaustion tugging her lids closed.
His words eased any fears, and his presence acted as a shield. As she drifted into her dreams, the only thought present was of the man who had saved her life and changed it forever.
A stinging pain in Izzy’s body jerked her from sleep.
Rain stormed against the roof of the cabin. She scrunched into a ball beside Daxton’s sleeping form as a searing agony channeled into her being, igniting her spirit until it pushed against her tight skin.
What is wrong with me?
She focused within herself. A web of familiar yellow strands filled her Spirit Cavity, but blue threads mingled around them.
The blue aura stemmed from the visible link between her and Daxton.
It constricted her energy, burning her like a fever.
She stayed within her Spirit Cavity, bewilderment and anxiety tearing at her stomach.
Fire scorched her insides. Inch by inch, the blue fused with the yellow, creating a glossy green webbing until the fever broke. Outside, the rain pelted harder against the roof. Green energy lined her Spirit Cavity. A weight fell from her shoulders.
A nuclear fission of power arched through her, making her heart pound. She breathed in two separate bodies, able to perceive Daxton as if she was sleeping in his body, inhaling the air he did. It took her a moment to force her mind to concentrate back on herself.
Delving deep, she gasped. She and Daxton were sharing spirit energy.
The link connecting them glowed the same green as inside her.
Instead of two separate beings, they existed as one person.
If she concentrated enough, she could visualize his dreams, dragon wings dipping in a cold blue sea.
The pounding of her heart became a scary staccato.
She assumed the energy would just fuse her human to her spirit, not fuse Daxton to her. Sharing spirit energy this way was unheard of in the Fallen realm. If they shared energy similar to a battery on a circuit board, if one side died, did that mean the other would, too?
Lightning outside flashed over her eyelids and echoed in her mind.
Panic flooded her being. To escape the onslaught, she sat up, intending to release into her spirit. The weight of her form held her down.
“Oh, damn…” she choked out as she looked at her human hands in the stormy darkness. She’d expected as much, but facing the reality felt like she’d lost a piece of herself.
Wetness built in her eyes. She shook and struggled to breathe. Ignoring her palpitating heart, she tried again.
Nothing.
She was stuck in her body.
