Epilogue
Leo closed the last suitcase, and Saint carried it to the car.
“Kit Kat we need to leave,” he called, knowing she worried about leaving the kids. “Mom and Dad will be here to watch, and their aunts and uncles promised to relieve them. They’re sending pictures daily,” he assured her.
“Did the wedding planner get all the details I requested?” he whispered to Saint.
Yes. Samantha packed the dress and accessories, and they’re already on the plane,” Saint informed him.
Kit Kat entered the room. “What about your PT? What if Melody needs us?”
His daughter still needed daily reassurance. Something he planned to fix when he returned with individual daddy-and-daughter dates for his girls and quality time with his sons.
“We’re calling them every day for half an hour,” he said, settling the argument. “Doc assured me a week off won’t hurt.”
“All right,” she said, still disbelieving his plans. He noticed by her half-packed suitcase. Whatever she didn’t bring, they’d buy.
This was about proving he was putting her first.
Saint drove them to the facility, where Leo went over the last-minute rundown.
“Tuck, get in here and clean the kitchen,” Blade yelled down the hall.
“When you fill the damn toilet paper,” Tuck shot back.
“Shut up, assholes,” Rocker yelled. “We’re trying to work.”
Whiskey may have had good intentions, but the facility felt crowded and overstimulated with the new team. He’d deal with it later.
He signed the last paycheck and smiled at his wife. “You ready to have some fun?”
“Sure,” she said, glancing down the hall.
Shadow passed her and hugged her. “Try not to kill him or lose him.”
Kit Kat laughed. “I’ll do my best.”
Taco handed her some new sunscreen from Samantha. “Since this got sprung on you and you didn’t have any, I brought this for you. I used it in the desert, and it works like a charm, and my skin stayed soft as a baby’s bottom.”
Grinning, she accepted his gift.
Leo walked around the desk and took her hand. “Doc’s here. Let’s go,” he said.
They walked down the hall and out to the parking lot. Doc got out and put the bags into the SUV. He helped Kit Kat into the backseat as anticipation ran through him. In two days’ time, he’d renew his vows to the woman he loved more than anything.
He opened his door to slide in beside her when Taco came running out. “Leo, Leo, you got a phone call.”
He heard a heavy sigh coming from inside the car.
“Take a message,” he ordered as he slid in beside her and took her hand.
“Leo, it’s the President of the United States,” Taco insisted.
Kit Kat’s hand slid from his grasp, and she stared straight ahead.
He took her hand, shut the door, and rolled the window down. “Tell him I’ll have to call him back. I’ve got a date with my wife.”
He rolled the window up and turned to see the tears streaming down her face. Leo got his second chance, and this time he didn’t plan to lose it.
“Start driving, Doc. Kit Kat and I have some fun to catch up on,” he said, leaning over to kiss her.
The SUV pulled out of the parking lot, and he saw the excitement in her eyes. He made it his goal to keep their marriage a priority. They had something most people never experienced, and Leo knew he’d always fight for his family.
