Chapter Eight #2
“How can Dean keep her safe? Wait—are they a thing?” Jagger must have made a face, making Justice laugh.
He wasn’t blind, and he knew they both had feelings for each other.
Dean had all but spelled it out for him, but he never came right out and said that he and Jules had been together.
“I don’t know,” he groaned. “I have a feeling that something has happened between them. Maybe that’s why Jules ran from Dove Creek.
All I know is that Dean is damn good at what he does, and if he says Jules is safe with him, I believe him,” Jagger said.
“You said he is in the CIA. What does he do, exactly?” Justice asked.
Jagger shrugged, “Don’t know,” he said. “I know that I don’t have clearance to know his job title. He’s ex-military, and he disappears for days, even weeks at a time. I know what he does is dangerous, and he can’t talk about it, so I don’t push.”
“And he has guys watching my father?” Justice questioned.
Jagger nodded. “Yep, two of them, and they have eyes on Jules. We just need to lay low and give Dean some time to do their thing.” Jagger worried that Justice was going to keep asking questions, and he wasn’t ready to answer all of them.
He didn’t want to have to tell her that her father was under investigation for human trafficking.
She knew her father wasn’t a good person, but the news that he was selling young women off as property would destroy Justice.
The thought of her father wanting to do the same thing to her made him sick.
Wolf would never get his shipment of goods that Tony Hobbs promised him.
Jagger would die keeping her safe if that’s what it took.
Justice sighed, and Jagger felt the red flags go up all around him.
She was too quiet, and it worried him that she had already figured out that he wasn’t telling her everything.
“Why would the CIA be interested in my father’s run for Governor?
I know he has some shady business dealings, but would the CIA handle that?
” Fuck, this was just what he didn’t want.
He thought about omitting some of the details, but that wasn’t the type of relationship he wanted with her.
Jagger decided it would be best to just rip the band-aid off and deal with whatever aftermath followed.
“They are investigating him for human trafficking,” he said. He watched as confusion and then anger crossed her features. Justice clenched her hands into fists, and he knew that she fully caught on.
“Like what he wants to do with me, basically selling me to Wolf?” Jagger nodded and pulled in front of the small cabin that they were going to be calling home for the foreseeable future. He undid her seatbelt and then his.
“First, I’m going to get us into the cabin, where we will be safe. Then, we will sit down, and I’ll tell you everything I know about your father’s business. You have a right to know,” Jagger said. Justice nodded, and he worried that not telling her everything from the start was a mistake.
“You should have told me, Jag. I’m not a child; I could have handled it.” Justice wiped at her tears.
“Everything has happened so quickly. I didn’t know when to slip in the news that your father is abducting women and selling them off.
I just found out this morning from Dean that he was trafficking, although I had my suspicions.
” Jagger got out of the SUV and breathed in the cold air, letting it wash over him.
He needed a minute because having to tell Justice what a monster her old man was wasn’t something he was looking forward to.
He opened her car door and smiled at the way she crossed her arms over her chest and wore an adorable little scowl on her face.
He loved her feisty side; her fire turned him on.
Justice was going to keep him on his toes, and he was going to love every minute of it.
“Let’s go, honey.” He held out his hand, and she stood sidestepping his body, not taking his help. He couldn’t stop his chuckle. Yep, she was going to be a handful.
“I can handle myself, thank you very much,” she spat and headed to the cabin, waiting for him to unlock the door. Jagger grabbed the few bags they had and met her on the porch.
“You know,” he said, unlocking the door with the code that Dean gave him, “it’s customary for the groom to carry his bride over the threshold.” Justice looked him up and down as if measuring his worth, and he laughed again. He was doing a lot of that lately, and it felt good.
“Yeah, not going to happen, Jag.” She said his name with a little heat. Justice was going to make him work harder than any other woman ever had. What she didn’t know was that he loved a good challenge and never backed down when faced with one.
“Sure, honey, whatever you say.” He dropped their bags, letting them thump down onto the porch, and lifted her into his arms, tossing her over his shoulder in a fireman’s hold.
She fought at first until he gave her little ass a good swat.
Justice yelped in surprise and smacked his backside in return.
She finally gave up fighting him, and he picked up their bags with his free hand and pushed his way through the front door.
He looked around the small cabin and headed back to what seemed like a logical place for a bedroom.
Luckily for him, he guessed correctly. He unloaded the bags into a chair in the corner of the room and then lowered his new bride onto the king-size bed that filled most of the room.
He started to strip out of his clothes, loving the way Justice’s eyes flared with desire as she watched him.
She didn’t say a word as he started to undress her.
He finished, pulling her jeans down her legs, leaving them both completely bare.
“See now, that’s better,” he growled. He was breathing heavy, almost like he had just finished running a marathon, and honestly, it felt that way. It had been a long trip, and all he wanted to do now was sink into his wife and then fall into bed with her and sleep for days.
“I take it this is the honeymoon part,” Justice squeaked.
Jag knew that this was all still so fresh to her.
He couldn’t believe he was her first, and if he had his way, he’d be her last, too.
There was no fucking way that he was going to let another man touch her, and he’d make damn sure that he spent each day deserving her. Justice was his, now and forever.
