Chapter 4
Chapter Four
Sally-Ann
Iam startled awake by something. It’s dark now, but I am alone in my bed.
If it weren’t for the soreness between my thighs, I would have thought I dreamed of him again.
I start to stretch, and then I notice something out of the corner of my eye.
Rosie is standing next to the bed like a kid from a scary movie. She’s just staring down at me.
“Good. You’re up,” she chirps.
“Rosie? Why aren’t you in bed?” I gasp.
“It’s only seven,” she says, matter of factly.
“Oh,” I groan. It feels so much later than that.
“My vision changed.”
“Changed? How so?” I ask, groping for my robe. Rosie grabs it off the foot of the bed and hands it to me before turning to face away from me. I stand and put the robe on, tying it tight.
“It’s not now.”
“What?”
“I am older in the vision. Much older.”
“So, we’re okay for now?”
“For now, but it’s coming. Lurking.”
“Okay. We’ll be ready,” I tell her, pulling her into a hug.
“Your baby will be older too,” she says only in a way a seven-year-old can.
“My baby?” I ask, and I immediately know she’s right. I feel different now. Everything feels different now.
“Yeah. He’ll be here soon,” she says, skipping out of my room—a son. My firstborn will be a son. Little Rosalie Nyx Beal is going to be the salvation of the world. I can feel it just as sure as I can feel the cool air from the fan hitting my skin. That’s my own little premonition.
Tridenton comes back into the bedroom, freshly showered. He kisses my forehead.
“What’s wrong?” he asks.
“Rosie’s vision changed. We are okay for now.”
“Good. Good. War is never good. Your brother says that dinner is ready.” As soon as he says that, my stomach growls loudly.
“Oh, my God, I’m starving.”
“I figured you would be. We worked up quite an appetite.”
“Is it terrible that even though I am starving, I want to stay here with you?”
“Not terrible at all. It’s the bond. It is my understanding that we will always feel this way.”
“Have you bonded with anyone before?” I blurt out before I can stop myself.
“Of course not. I was made solely for you, just as you were made solely for me. Nothing would have happened if we were not meant to be.”
“What do you mean?” I ask, not entirely sure what he’s talking about.
“My dick wouldn’t have gotten hard for anyone but you, not even myself,” he rasps into my ear, sending shivers down my spine.
“Oh,” I murmur into his neck.
“We should eat. You’ll need your strength for what comes next.”
“What comes next?”
“You,” he says simply. “Get dressed.”
I throw on some sweatpants and a t-shirt and follow him out to the dining room, where everyone is just sitting down to dinner.
“We are avoiding war,” Gareth says.
“For now,” Hortencia adds in, dishing up the children’s dinner.
“What do we know about the threat?”
“Not much, but the closer we get to it, Rosie will know more,” Gareth says. Tridenton nods and gets to work on his steak. We don’t eat fish of any kind in this family. They are friends, and it wouldn’t be right.
Later that night, after another vigorous round of lovemaking, Tridenton thrashes in his sleep. Gently, I kiss him awake.
He sucks in a deep breath like he doesn’t know where he is. Hell, he probably doesn’t.
“My love, you were having a nightmare,” I whisper to him. His breathing normalizes, and he squeezes me.
“I was, but it’s all better now.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“No, I don’t really remember it. I have always had the same dark dream. Bits and pieces, really, but it’s too hazy to remember with finite detail.”
“Hmm… are you in any pain?”
“A bit.”
“Come. I’ll run you a bath, and you can let your fin out.”
“You’d be okay with that?”
“Of course. Why wouldn’t I be? You’re my other half. I love all of you, even your fin.”
“You love me?”
“Of course, I do. Have we not said it already?” I ask, frowning. Surely, we have.
“We have not said it out loud though I’ve felt it since the moment I laid eyes on you,” he says.
“I have too. It just feels so tangible between us, like I can reach out and touch it.”
“It’s the bond. It makes things that should be impossible possible.”
“What a sneaky bond,” I say, giggling.
“The bond begins once both of you are born. So, twenty years ago, I felt it. I felt the moment you came into being. The moment my soul started to become whole.”
“That’s beautiful,” I say, close to tears.
“Come. There’s a big bathtub down the hall.
” I get out of bed and pull my robe on again.
He pulls his swim trunks, the only clothes he has, on and follows me into the bathroom the kids use.
They are long in bed, but this tub could be mistaken for a small pool.
I fill it with lukewarm water and add the salts that Hortencia and Gareth use.
Holy shit, I forgot that I would get a tail too. The change is already taking place, but within a short amount of time, I’ll be able to have a fin at will, and Tridenton will be able to have legs at will.
Once we sit in the tub, I watch in awe as he wills his fin back into place.
It’s gorgeous. Greens, blues, even a little pink are mixed in.
It’s soft, and while it looks scaly, it doesn’t feel like a reptile.
He leans his head back on the edge of the tub as I stroke his tail.
The little fins by hips are powerful, as are the ones by the end of his tail.
“Fuck, Sally,” he growls, making me jerk my hand away from him.
“Am I hurting you?” I ask, concerned. The last thing I’d want to do is hurt my mate. His eyes snap to mine. I don’t see pain, only lust. The kind of passion I see when he’s pounding into me.
“No, I just had no idea that you touching me like that would be pleasurable.”
“Oh, should I continue?”
“Fuck yeah,” he says, leaning his head back once my hands are on him again.
This is going to be fun.
