Chapter 47
Chapter forty-seven
Isla
‘Ru I swear, If you don’t shut the fuck up…’ Another sharp pain cuts me off, and I buckle over, unable to breathe.
Another contraction. They are getting closer together.
‘In the books they are lying down…’ My brother continues with his unsolicited suggestions.
‘Ru, I think you should stop talking.’ Fauna whispers.
‘I will stand however the fuck I want to stand, okay!’
Agony, that’s what I feel like. Absolute agony that is so surreal I wouldn’t believe it if I wasn’t the one experiencing it.
‘Come here.’ Beckoning my brother to come closer.
Looking a little terrified, he cautiously steps my way. ‘What is it?’
‘I’m gonna use your balls as one of those stress thingys. You’re the only man here so fairs fair.’
He yelps backwards, clutching between his legs.
I roll my eyes, fucking pussy.
Fauna smothers a laugh and Ruaridh scowls her way.
‘Traitor.’
‘Owww… I can’t do this.’ Panic starts to rise within me and I look to Fauna, fear taking ahold.
What if I can’t do this? If I can't get the baby out, or worse, something bad happens.
‘Yes, you can, Isla. You’re so strong.’ Squeezing my hand, she turns to my brother. ‘Where is he?’
‘I want Liam,’ I cry.
I’ve never felt so vulnerable in my life.
‘Liam!’ Ru shouts down the corridor. ‘Liam, I swear if you don’t magically appear I’m going to make true on that promise to Kill-‘
‘Here! I’m coming, baby!’
Sinking my head back, I breathe.
Strong arms embrace me and I whimper in relief.
‘Where were you?’
‘Getting the best. I’m here now, baby. What can I do?’
‘Give er your balls,’ Ru chimes in from a safe distance away.
‘My balls?’
‘It’s like she’s been possessed by a demon. She was always a psycho but that threat was criminal.’ My brother pouts like the ned he is.
‘Oh fuck off,’ I call out.
‘You’ve got yourself in with the devil brother.’
‘Ru, why don’t you shut the fuck up before I come over there and rip your spine straight out yer arse!’
‘See!’ He points my way right as another contraction hits.
‘Why don’t you step outside?’ Fauna coaxes.
‘But I’m here for support,’ Ruaridh pouts.
‘You’re terrible support.’ I grit out.
Grey hair and a harsh brow appear around the door.
‘Now, how is my favourite couple?’
‘Hey!’ Fauna and Ru both shout.
Pam gives a disapproving shake of her head. ‘You two lost the right to that title when I found you fucking on my kitchen counter.’
Fauna’s cheeks immediately go bright red and Ru grins.
‘Can’t knock us for trying to give this wee one a baby cousin to grow up with.’ Ru smirks.
I groan in pain and Pam lifts my nightie.
Someone gasps.
‘You know… on second thought, maybe we could get a dog instead.’
‘Out,’ Pam barks. And the two of them turn to the door looking well and truly scarred and leaving the three of us.
‘You’re doing amazing, baby.’ Liam strokes a sweat-soaked strand from my face. ‘I’m in awe of your strength every day.’
‘You’re looking ready to push.’
‘Is she dilated enough?’ Liam asks pulling out something to hand to her. ‘Could you check to be sure?’
‘Is that a…’ He can’t be fucking serious.
Pam, from her position between my legs, holds up the ruler my dafty boyfriend just gave her. The expression on her face a mirror of my own.
‘Do you want to kill him or shall I?’
‘Me…’ more sharp pains. ‘When I’m done pushing the massive baby he put in me out.’
‘Now, Isla, honey. Push.’
Liam holds me up as I squeeze his arms and push.
It’s a magical experience, really. Being in such a vulnerable and painful position but feeling so much undeniable strength rush through me. Knowing with all my being that I’m doing the impossible.
‘I see a head.’
‘Deep breaths,’ Liam coaxes right as I feel the burning sensation.
Screaming I keep pushing and fuck it’s the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I push for me, for my baby and our future. With everything in me I do it.
I sink back, exhausted and Liam pulls me into his back. The two of us collapsed together on the floor.
‘You’re amazing.’ He breaths.
But I can’t. No, I hold my breath waiting.
And then I hear it, the sweet cries of my baby.
‘Here you go mom,’ Pam coos as she places my wailing child on my chest. ‘Shhh, moma’s got you.’
