GUNNER
?
Victor provided more information with the time we had on the flight. I wasn’t happy to know that some members of teams we were meeting up with are witches. Savvy explained to me they were the good kind. No comment. Well, see when we get there how good they are.
“Pop.”
Bull calls to me as we stand parked on the road about a mile from where Bellamy, Princess and Sin, along with a few other young women, are being held. Savvy didn’t take the confirmation that Sin had been taken well, she suspected when Victor was speaking in riddles when we first got on the jet, but to hear it flat out, it took a lot of sweet talking to keep her from hauling ass and taking on the coven of crazies by herself. She is livid, glaring at the road.
“Yeah son?” I turn to Bull, who is shoving guns and ammo into his holster.
He doesn’t look up at me. He keeps doing his checks.
“How did you know?”
My brows furrow at his question.
“How did I know what, son?” I ask.
He stops what he’s doing and looks up at me, his eyes assess me, before his shoulders slump.
“Fuck, never mind.” He shakes his head and walks away.
A hand on my shoulder stops me from following him. I don’t know what has gone on with him. He has been… I don’t know… quieter and retrospect.
“He will figure it out.” Savvy says as she too watches our son join his brother”s group.
I look down at her, confusion in my eyes.
“He is in love, Gunner.” The look she gives me is one that says I should know that.
I don’t.
How the hell would I? And in love. Love with who? He’s been banging anything that walks for the last few months. Months ago, I may have thought he had found someone because he stopped messing around with the club girls, but then, a few months back, he started back up again. I let out a breath. Pulling Savvy into my side.
“Baby, I don’t have room to worry about all our damn kids at the same damn time. I’ll tap back in and figure our boy out as soon as we get these damn girls” home.” I say as Savvy squeezes with a small laugh. I kiss her hair. Turning away from our boys, we make our way over to her father and the teams he has waiting here for us.
Time to get to work.
“You will be with me Savvy and Gunner along with the boys accompanied by Severus. He is much stronger than Julia and will be there to ensure we’re covered with his… talents.” Victor says.
My eyes trail to the man Severus taking him in. The man stands at nearly seven feet tall and has muscles on muscles. He’s a Black man with dreads that I swear move on their own accord, because there isn’t a breeze to be felt. He stands next to a smaller Asian woman, I may say, smaller because next to him we’re all fucking ants. She sees me watching them and sends a wink my way. One that doesn’t go unnoticed by my woman, because she takes a small step in front of me, but never takes my eyes off her father. I chuckle and lean down so my lips are next to her ear.
“It will only ever be you, my beautiful wifey.” I chuckle and kiss her behind her ear.
Victor clears his throat, eyeing me and my woman. I shrug and tune back into him, explaining where everyone will go and what they are meant to do. The witches will accompany each team doing their witchy woo shit. The shifters will be in their wolf forms. Apparently, they are faster and lighter on their feet and will cover our back against any wolves that may be on the wrong side of this. Victor names off other shit, but my annoyance and eagerness to get in there and knock the bitch’s block off is getting the best of me, and I tune him out for a few minutes. My focus is on breathing my woman in and calming my beating heart, preparing myself for the crazy shit I’m no doubt going to see.
“… Beaman and his coven will cloak the vehicles as we surround the cemetery.” Victor nods to the Beaman guy.
“The crows have shown us that Julia and her followers are in Marlo’s mausoleums, along with the thirteen daughters. The fourteenth is being held in a vehicle.” When he says fourteenth, he looks over at me.
Princess.
I give him a nod of understanding and I look over to Vex and Rocket. They are the most concerned about Princess, not saying that Bull, Blaze, Savvy and I aren’t, but we had talked on the plane and it was brought up because Princess is merely human. She wouldn’t be with the others. They volunteered to be the ones to go for her, and no one had any argument with that plan.
“Does everyone have everything they need?” Victor asks, looking around the large group.
There are twenty–two vehicles lining the road that will carry us all into the cemetery. There are also fifteen wolf shifters who take off after receiving their signal from their leader or alpha. Fuck, I can’t keep all this other shit straight. All I know is the young man has a stake in the game. His girlfriend, or as they call them, his mate, was one of the girls taken. I was surprised when I found out she is a princess or some shit to all wolves all over the world, which is another reason for the sheer number of vehicles and others. King wolfie wanted to send more people, but Victor nixed the idea because he wanted to ensure that no one who was with him was mistaken for the ones we’ve come here to take out. I agreed, as did the other team leaders.
Movement at the top of the mausoleum catches my attention. And I realize it’s one of Beaman’s crows. That shit is freaky as fuck. When he and his group first arrived, he was introduced to us and his eyes were as white as snow and had one of his familiars on his shoulder. It freaked me the fuck out to look up and see hundreds of the little beady eyed fuckers in the trees and power lines focused on us. Shaking my head. A hand clamps on my shoulder, causing me to tense.
“It’s just me brother, good to know I’m not the only one freaked out by all this shit.” Turbo says, as he continues scanning out surroundings.
“Yeah, this is not shit I ever want to deal with. Leave this shit to my woman and kids. Regular human criminals are more my style.” I say, and we both chuckle.
My earpiece crackles.
“We are moving in three… two… one…”
And all hell breaks loose.
As I make my way to the mausoleum, I take a moment to look back at the SUV where Princess is being held. Fuck. Vex, Rocket and a few others are making good headway. That is until I see a shadow that fades in and out, coming up behind Vex and my movement halts. Before I can warn my son, Rocket”s crazy ass pulls a knife from the neck of the man he just took out and chucks it into the shadows. With my next blink, a woman stands screeching with the blade sticking out of her chest. Rocket bellows “Die bitch.” And then takes off again with a war cry.
Fuck me.
I release a breath and turn back, focusing on my task. I’m a few yards from the entrance of the mausoleum. I look around and I can’t see Savvy and my chest constricts, because her ass was supposed to stay at my fucking side. Shit.
A fist connects with the side of my face, and I growl. My head whips around. And well, shit. The mother fucker in front of me stares at me hungrily. What the fuck.
“Not today, motherfucker.” I say.
Thank fuck for the witchy woo shit. Victor had one of his witchy doctors fix me. And damn if the lady didn’t fix me right the fuck up. She said there wasn’t anything she could do for the scar, but she healed my shit. I have no pain as I roll my shoulders, stepping toward the motherfucker who is about to catch these motherfucking hands.
His smile is predatory when he comes at me. His eyes flashing like Andreus did. Fucking dogs. I duck when he swings and nail him in the gut. But the mother doesn’t move or wince.
Aww fuck.
The next strike from him has me seeing stars as his meaty fist connects with my temple. Shaking it off, feeling dizzy, but refusing to go down. Not one to give up, I put my all into my next combination. Of course all aimed at his dick, because man or dog, we all got dicks. One, two, three… down goes the doggy like a tree.
“Like I said, motherfucker, not too damn day.” I say.
Before he can recover, one of the wolves that came with Victor barrels into the man… dog… wolf. Whatever the fuck he was, and rips his head clean the fuck off.
Well, shit.
As I step away from the gruesome scene, the wind begins to pick up and the crows squawk so loud I have to cover my ears. I fall to my knees when my head feels like it is about to explode, looking around. No one else seems to have the same problem as they continue to fight against Julia’s people. Fuck, at least we are winning.
“Prez,”
“Pop,”
“What the fuck?”
“What the hell is happening to him?”
The voices around me fade.
“You didn’t think you could come here and be the savior, did you?” The voice says, cackling.
My eyes widen when I realize I can’t hear anything happening around me. Turbo shakes my shoulders and says something to me.
“I CAN’T, FUCK,” I say, pointing to my ears.
“You should have stayed away, Gunner Church… Now you will lose everything.” The voice cackles louder, causing me to wince.
I watch in horror as Bull, Turbo and Taz fall to their knees, holding their heads and cursing, or at least I think that is what they are doing. My eyes focus and unfocus. No matter what I do, I can’t. Fuck. What the fuck?
A woman pushes through Bull, Taz and Turbo, who couldn’t defend themselves if they wanted to, if they are feeling like I do. Their faces are screwed up in pain. For some reason, the woman is focused on me and as much as I want to scramble away, she grabs me by my face and says something to me. She looks like she’s yelling. Then she turns and says something. When I look at what has her attention–my woman. My crazy ass woman comes barreling through a group of others. The worry for me and determination to get to me are written all over her face. She takes her eyes off of me and sees Taz, Bull and Turbo in the same positions. Her mouth moves and then she holds her hands out. And what the fuck is that?
My eyes widen at the sight of Savvy, her hands holding a fucking glowing sword. What the actual fuck? I watch as Savvy slashes and stabs her way to me. She is fiercer than a motherfucker, and I try to lift my hands, say something when I see another one of those shadow things is coming up behind her.
Fuck, fuck, fuck. Why won”t my damn voice work? My eyes are wide as I look at the woman holding my face, shaking my head, trying to get her to look at Savvy, warn her to do something other than hold my fucking face. When my eyes return to Savvy because this handsy bitch isn’t getting the hint. I feel the air above me shift, looking up to see Rocket sailing over us, hand raised. I don’t know if he says something to Savvy because she drops to the ground as the shadow thing is about to engulf her. The same blade I saw Rocket throw before, sails through the air and goes into the shadow and, like last time, a man clutches his chest and the blade lodges in it, his mouth wide open. If I could fucking hear, I’m sure the fucker would be screeching.
Savvy stands and books it to me. She slides on the ground next to the woman. They say a few words to each other. Savvy puts her fucking glowing sword on the ground in front of me. My woman raises her hands she intertwines them with someone else’s and I growl, when I notice it ain’t a fucking dainty feminine hand. I try to turn my head, but the woman holding my face jerks it so I remain looking at her. My eyes trail to Savvy as she looks up and says something to the fucker holding her hand. I focus on her. Her eyes are telling me it will be okay. Damn right it will. I try to smile to reassure her I understand, but I wince when another pain shoots through my skull. When it dissipates enough that I can look around to check on my boys. I notice there are three people surrounding each one of us and women holding Taz, Bull and Turbos faces like the woman in front of me is holding mine. And then more crazy shit happens. The hands on my face get warm and the ringing dissipates and the relief I feel is instant. I release a breath in relief, because fuck me.
Hot damn, what the fuck was that? I shake my head out of the hands of the woman holding me when I no longer feel the pain in my head.
The woman chuckles. “That was Julia, not playing nice.” She stands. “Okay boys, you had your break. Now it’s time to rescue some girls. Up you get.” She says.
Savvy watches me with concern in her eyes.
“I’m okay baby.”
“You fucking better be. I’m going to kill that bitch,” Savvy growls.
“You are about to get your chance,”
