Ava Gray #2
“You look good, baby.” He kissed my cheek, then my neck.
I was nowhere near in the mood for his attempts to try to fuck on me. I had become so detached that my feelings and cravings for him were almost non-existent.
“Thank you.” I tried to step back.
“Let’s go in the room right quick.” He removed one strap from my shoulder while kissing my neck.
“I can’t, I have to go. I don’t want or need to be late. When I get back—”
“When you get back?” He cut me off. Smacking his lips, he pushed me away with enough force to make me stumble. “Fuck it.” He headed to the bedroom.
I brushed off his childish reaction and continued making sure I had everything I needed.
“I’m not about to sit around this muthafucka while you're out having a good ol time.” He brushed past me.
“Who said anything about having a good time? I don’t even want to be there, and I tried getting out of it, but I was told it was mandatory. You can’t leave, Rob. I can’t take Savannah with me, and you know that.” I fussed.
“You think I give a fuck? You’ll figure it out, but I ain't sticking around.”
Just like that, he was out the door. I stood in place and counted to ten while inhaling deeply.
My frustration levels were rising at a rapid pace, but I refused to allow him to ruin my mood.
Snatching my phone, I dialed my sister's number, praying she’d answer.
Hell, I prayed she had nothing planned for the night.
“Hey, sis!” She sounded happy, which made me smile.
“Hey, I need a huge favor.” I crossed my fingers tightly.
“Yes?”
“Can you please watch Savannah while I attend this exhibition for work? Rob is being a dick right now, and he left…again.” I was stressed.
“He’s so fuckin annoying, bruh! Girl, bring me my baby, so you can go handle your business. I’m about to order pizza anyway and find a good movie to watch with Dakota.”
I sighed in relief and started gathering some items to pack inside Savannah’s tote bag.
Since she was already dressed in her pajamas, I wasn’t worried about changing her clothes.
Once I had everything taken care of, I had to search for my keys.
I knew I put them on the table near the front door, but they were missing along with Rob’s keys.
I opened the door to look outside and noticed my car was gone.
“Ughhhh! I know you fuckin lyin’!” I screamed in irritation.
Rob knew exactly what he was doing when he pulled that stunt. With my car and his keys gone, he figured I would stay home and be upset. Nope, I wasn’t about to allow him to completely ruin my mood or my night. I dialed my sister back, and she answered on the second ring.
“Do you mind picking us up and dropping me off? This nigga took my car.” I sighed.
“I’m on my way.” She huffed.
I knew Aja didn’t have an attitude with me.
We were both irritated by Rob’s childish behavior, but it bothered Aja more that I had to actually deal with it.
I sat around in the living room while Savannah played with her toys.
Checking the time, I was far behind schedule.
Stephanie had called me twice, checking to see where I was.
I prayed my tardiness didn’t jeopardize my job.
I had to lie about having car trouble. Rob knew how much this job meant to me, and the way he talked his shit, I would think he’d help me keep it.
Twenty minutes passed before Aja called my phone to let me know she was outside waiting. I grabbed up my baby and her things. After making sure I turned off the lights, I locked the door behind me.
“Ohhh! Bitch! You look the fuck good, twin!” Aja shouted as I walked toward her car.
“Thank you.” I smiled.
As my sister drove, I noticed she kept stealing glances at me.
“Where the hell did you get that dress from?”
“The company provided it.”
“I know you lying! Do you have to give it back?”
“I don’t know.” I shrugged. “I don’t think so. Check this out though.” I said, pulling out the diamond necklace from my clutch.
“Ava muthafuckin Marie! Are those real diamonds?”
Aja damn near swerved off the road as she stared at me with wide eyes.
“Bitch, can you focus!” I pointed ahead of us. “Yes, they’re real.”
“Awe hell nah, are they still hiring? They must’ve taken that out of your pay check.”
I smiled, thinking about the note Ethan left.
“Actually, my boss told me not to worry about that. So, no, it wasn’t taken out of my check.”
My sister’s smile somewhat matched mine as she kept glancing over at me.
“Let me find out you’re about to turn into a sugarbaby.
I ain’t mad at it. Hell, I'd rather an old white man take care of you, and keep that smile on your face, than you dealing with Rob trifflin ass. You have a good thing going, Ava. If you don’t leave his sorry ass, he’s bound to ruin this piece of happiness for you.
Fuck him and fuck this so called marriage. ” She smacked her lips.
I really didn’t want to have a conversation about Rob.
“First of all, the CEO isn’t an old white man. He’s white, but definitely not old. The old man died and passed the company down to his oldest son.”
“Well shit, that sounds even better.” Aja giggled.
When we pulled up to the designated building, only the valet stood outside.
I gathered my belongings before blowing my baby a kiss.
I thanked my sister for dropping me off, and told her I’d call for an Uber to take me home.
She volunteered to keep Savannah, promising to drop her off in the morning.
I was cool with that. Before I walked into the building, I made sure to leave all the bullshit I was carrying outside the door.
For once, I wanted to enjoy myself in a social setting, even if it was work related.
I deserved to have some type of fun and that’s exactly what I planned to do.
