Epilogue
ONE YEAR LATER
“What in the hell…”
I swear this weekend is cursed. How is it possible there is a line backed up to the road again.
Thankfully, I’m not waiting to drop my boat this time.
I’m just here to drop off some life jackets to a friend of mine.
I park my truck in the side lot and grab the vests from the back, then head over to the dock where Katie should be waiting.
I nearly trip over my own feet when I get closer and see three very familiar alphas sitting in beach chairs in the grass, sipping longnecks.
Deacon spots me and offers me a wide grin. “Hey firecracker! You made it!”
I narrow my eyes at him. “Dee, what are you doing here?” I ask slowly, suspicious immediately.
It’s Maverick who answers. “Did you really think we were gonna let you come down here in those Daisy Duke cut-offs knowing how many alphaholes would be around?”
I pinch the bridge of my nose in exasperation, then look at Jake. He shrugs. “I told them this wasn’t a good idea.”
I’d be annoyed, but I can tell through the bond they just wanted to be with me. They know I can take care of myself. It’s kinda cute if not a little boneheaded. But they’re my cavemen, and I love them.
Deacon points his beer bottle toward the ramp. “Plus, it’s been pretty entertaining watching these out-of-towner idiots try to get their boats in the water.”
I scoff. “You do realize that you were those out-of-towner idiots like a year ago, right?”
Mav grins as he sips his brew. “Yeah, but now we’re local idiots. It’s different.”
That makes me hang my head, shaking it in both exasperation and fondness. Suddenly a feminine voice rises above the din.
“Look, let me help you before you embarrass yourselves even more. Stop thinking with your ego.”
We all look toward the voice, and I stare at the scene unfolding. Katie stands on the ramp, hands on her hips, squaring up with an alpha nearly twice her size. She’s got a fierce expression on her face, but he looks like he just fell in love.
“Think you should go help her, firecracker?” Deacon asks.
I smile at him, then steal his beer and plop down in his lap. “Nah, she’s got this. Can’t risk any more city boys falling in love with me. I’ve got all I can handle.”
