Chapter Thirty-Five
Alexandra
Revenge is a sweet treat; justice is the whole feast.

I thought he was too much of a coward to do anything half as dramatic as try to kill me.
Then he loaded me into the car and drove it out onto the road I would normally take to get home from a trip, and pushed it off the edge of the embankment.
I watched it all, hovering over my body.
Just like I’ve been hovering over my body since I was found and taken to the hospital. Watching who came to visit, including Christopher and his mistress. If he would’ve had the chance to pull the plug on me, he’d have done it.
I found out he was engaging in fraud. Tax fraud, wire fraud, you name the fraud, he was doing it, and I planned to use it to get a just settlement in the divorce. He decided he’d rather I was dead.

I’m not surprised to see my daughter standing vigil.
But it is a surprise when Daisy McNamara, Nora Clarke, and Soraya Nichols come into the hospital room.
I saw them here before, when I was floating above myself.
I wouldn’t have said I knew them well, but they came.
“I have to tell you everything,” I say.
He might try to come for me again, but he can’t get them all.
Daisy leans in and takes my hand. “You have a coven looking after you now, and we’re going to keep you safe.”
