Chapter 8
Paige
I turn my cell phone on when I get back to my home in Ogden near the WSU on Harrison Blvd. I am surprised to see there is a message from Robert from yesterday. Surprised since he barely calls me at all these days unless he wants something.
He has no clue that I know he has been living with a German girl for the past two years. He has no idea that I know the he slept with my sister this three nights in her hotel room in Kaiserslautern. His message is terse.
Where the hell are you? It’s noon your time. You should be home to answer my call.
Obviously he thinks that my world revolves around his and I should be at the ready any time he snaps his fingers. An erroneous assumption since he is living with another woman and barely calls me maybe once a month.
What Robert is the most clueless about is that I filed for divorce last Monday before I got snowed in with Jack. What he doesn’t know is that he will find that out tomorrow when he is served his divorce papers at his apartment tomorrow morning before he goes to work.
If he signs the paperwork, I will be able to complete a no fault divorce without him even having to be present. I sent him a note with the paperwork telling him exactly what he needs to do.
Robert…Just sign this paperwork and I can take care of the rest. I know you have been living with that German girl.
I know she is pregnant. I could end your career if I wanted to.
But all I want is to be free of you. Sign the paperwork and this will all be over in 90 days as soon as I get the paperwork back to my attorney… Do the right thing Robert.
I do not sign the letter, he will be fully aware that I wrote the note with it being with my signed request for divorce.

Robert
Who the hell would be knocking on my door at ten till 7am in the morning? Are we having a recall at the base I didn’t know about? When I open the door, there is a man standing there in a suit that looks like it comes from JC Penny.
“Are you Robert Ray Allen?” The man asks politely. “That would be me. Captain Robert Allen,” I answer with my formal title. “You have been served,” the man exclaims as he places a FedEx envelope in my hands. After he takes a photo of me holding the folder, he turns and walks away.
“Who was that darling?” Heidi calls from the kitchen. “I don’t know. Evidently I have been served with some sort of legal paperwork,” I tell her as I reenter the kitchen.
Sitting at the kitchen table with Heidi, I pull the contents out of the folder. There is a legal document, a note and a return FedEx folder. Quickly, I scan the document and see that Paige has filed for divorce. When I turn my eyes to the other paper, it is a note.
Part of me is pissed off that she threatened me with ruining my career.
But the larger part of me is relieved. This way I can be divorced in plenty of time to marry Heidi before she delivers our baby.
Heidi is beside herself with joy when I tell her it is my divorce paperwork.
“We will be able to get married a couple of months before you deliver,” I point out as we hug lovingly.
Although I need to go to work now before I am late, I will be able to deliver the signed paperwork to the local FedEx office at lunchtime. All in all, this could not have worked out better for me if I tried to do this myself. Who says cheaters never prosper?
