Epilogue

Richard

And we were more than alright. It’s been five years since we officially got together that night, and I’m happy to say that things have been great since then.

I couldn’t wait to put a ring on my woman’s finger, but I waited for a few months after my family moved in out of respect for Katie’s wishes. She wanted to settle down a bit, and make sure that this was the right decision for us.

I don’t blame her, given our history. And I wasn’t worried either.

I knew things would never go sideways for us, not anymore, not as long as I was still alive and kicking.

So the minute she gave me the green signal, I made sure to get down on one knee and slide the biggest diamond I could find onto Katie’s ring finger.

“Dada!!”, came a tiny voice down the hall before my latest bundle of Joy collided with

“Now who is that? Are you back from your ice cream trip Emma? What did you have?”

“Buccherscoch!!”, came the proud, toothy reply, and I laughed, lifting her up in my arms, smiling at Connor and Katie as they came in too.

As I said, we’re more than good!

And because of Katie’s encouragement (and nagging), I finally got the courage to resign from my position at my father’s company. He wasn’t too happy about it.

“I never thought you’d be the one to rebel, Richard”, were his exact words, but hey, you’ve only got one life, and I don’t want to spend that talking about mining equipment that put me to sleep.

I gave the company to Gary (and by proxy, Joyce), and two years later, he still hasn’t burned the company to the ground so I’m guilt-free.

I went into the software line, as was my passion since college days, and I have to say that things have really picked up for me. Now, I’m no longer a billionaire because my father made me one. I’m a billionaire in my own right, all thanks to my darling wife.
