Chapter 1 Flash Marriage to Widowhood

I woke up on the huge bed.

Oh no, the grand villa.

The space beside me was cold.

Good, my cheap husband had gone Farming before dawn again.

“Do you plant seeds or bury a gold mine? Or maybe a lover?”

I grumbled and rolled over.

My phone started vibrating nonstop as messages from Bestie flooded in.

I sighed and tossed the draft over.

The picture showed only thick muscles and strong men.

A few seconds later, Bestie exploded on the spot.

I stared at the crazy text and emojis on the screen.

Thinking about the month that felt like we didn't even live as a couple, I snapped.

My heart skipped.

Suddenly, I remembered Lu Jingchuan was almost thirty and had never even dated.

Was he really just for show?

I thought I had gotten a good deal.

Ugh, of course cheap things are the worst.

Lu Jingchuan and I met through a blind date.

We married the next day after only one meeting.

Back then, because of the ten thousand in Bride Price, my Ex-Boyfriend's family called me a gold-digging bitch.

My second aunt got angry and wanted to introduce me to someone better.

“I know a guy. He hasn't gone to college, but he rents out thousands of acres of land. He makes a lot of money a year.”

I was uninterested. I pictured some dirt-rich guy with gold chains.

But the day I met him, I saw a tall guy almost one point nine meters standing at the coffee shop entrance.

Under his black T-shirt, chest muscles peeked out. Short hair, sharp features, exactly like the male lead from a military drama.

“Excuse me... sorry I'm late.”

He spoke awkwardly, but his voice was deep and nice.

“The fields had something come up last minute...”

The contrast was too big. I froze.

My second aunt said he had dropped out of high school and been Farming in the countryside ever since. He had saved up, was honest, dumb, and had never dated.

He was really handsome, and his temperament was steady and reliable.

But I had just gone through a breakup and felt dead inside.

The dinner was abnormally quiet.

He hardly spoke unless I asked, and his answers were short, like a telegram.

His eyes either stared at the table or drifted out the window, never landing on my face.

He was truly honest and truly dumb.

Just as I was thinking about how to sneak away, my unlucky Ex-Boyfriend called.

“Xia Mianmian, my mom said the Bride Price is at most four thousand. You have to get pregnant first before you can enter the house, otherwise it's not safe...”

“Safe your ass!”

I shouted in anger.

I hung up and wiped my tears awkwardly.

The man across from me looked helpless and panicked, rubbing his big hands on his knees over and over.

“You... I'm sorry... did I say something wrong?”

“You... don't get angry...”

He was so nervous his forehead broke into sweat, and he even forgot to hand over the tissues.

I wiped my tears and glared at him.

“Lu Jingchuan, right? When we get married, will you give Bride Price?”

The moment I said it I regretted it. I felt like a crazy person.

His dark face instantly flushed red.

“Six... sixty-six thousand, okay?”

He added quickly.

“If it's too little, we can add more... I still have some savings...”

“After we get married, all the money goes to you to manage. You just... don't mind that I don't have much education...”

That afternoon he took me to buy five gold chains and diamond rings, all the most expensive ones.

The shop assistant praised his generosity. He blushed and said.

“That's only right.”

So I angrily married this man I had only met once.

Lu Jingchuan had no parents and built a grand two-story villa in the village.

I was a freelance illustrator. The countryside air was good, so I could just switch environments.

But on our wedding night, after the guests left.

He looked at me and said dryly.

“You... rest well.”

Then he hugged his pillow and went to the Guest Bedroom.

From then on, he went Farming every day before dawn and came home only after it was dark.

Without fail.

Were there treasures in the fields?

The wife didn't even bother to take one look!
