Chapter 3 Walking the Dog

After eating and drinking, I lay back on the bed.

After moving to the countryside, my sleep quality was surprisingly good, and Lu Jingchuan had fattened me up a few pounds.

When I woke up, cicadas chirped right by my ears.

“Feels like I'm starting to mold.”

Even Xueqiu was digging in the yard.

I grabbed it.

“Come on, let's go for a walk.”

The village layout was nice, wide flat asphalt roads lined with tall locust trees.

At the village entrance, several aunties stared at me.

“Oh my, this is Lu Jingchuan's new wife, right? She looks so fresh.”

“I heard she's a college student from the city. She has such a temperament, unlike us farmers' daughters.”

I smiled awkwardly, Xueqiu wagging its tail excitedly.

“Look, city dogs are all whiter than our village dogs.”

“Aiya, they're fat like little piglets!”

“Does this dog even need walking? Our village dogs play by themselves.”

Just then, a few local dogs ran out of the alley and started chasing each other.

Xueqiu saw them like old friends and shot forward.

I stumbled from the sudden pull.

“Where are you going!”

This silly dog had super strength and ignored me completely, racing toward the others!

I was dragged along, my slippers flying off.

The aunties burst into laughter.

“Aiya, is this human walking the dog or dog walking the human?”

“Lu Jingchuan's wife, just let that dog play by itself.”

Xueqiu tore free of the leash and happily joined the pack at the village entrance.

I blushed and went to pick up my slippers.

Before I could catch my breath, the worst thing happened.

Those dogs suddenly jumped into a muddy pit and started rolling.

I watched helplessly as my smiley angel turned into a mud pit demon.

“Ah! Xueqiu, come back! You're dirty!”

I rushed over shouting.

This time it listened.

Hearing my call, it jumped on me and spun around in circles.

“Ah! Don't come near me!”

“Ah! Get away!”

In an instant, I became a mud person too.

The aunties laughed so hard they doubled over.

Just when I was desperate to disappear into the ground.

A big hand grabbed Xueqiu's neck from behind.

“Behave!”

The deep voice carried warning.

“Or I'll stew you.”

“Oh, Lu Jingchuan's back!”

The auntie smiled and called out.

“Take your wife home quick! Look at what you made!”

“Yeah, yeah, new wife has thin skin!”

Lu Jingchuan bent down, easily lifted the muddy dog with one hand, and stretched the other toward me.

That hand was big, with prominent knuckles, thick calluses from farm work.

So this one point nine meter tall strong man, one hand mud dog, one hand mud person, shamefacedly went home.
