Chapter 11 Scooter Freedom
The days after that were full and lived-in.
Besides chasing deadlines, I threw everything into fixing up our little nest.
I redrew the closet plans again and again, debated which sunroom roof let in the best light, and watched packages pile into mountains.
Then I found a dusty little electric scooter in the garage.
A whole new world unlocked!
Pancakes from the east end of the village, fried chicken from the west, walking the dog south, picking up packages north.
Wind hit my face. Freedom fizzed through me.
Xueqiu fully became the village pet, racing around with its whole pack of barkers.
I often carried dog food on "inspection visits." From far off I could already hear a storm of excited barking, dogs bouncing in place like they were clubbing.
The aunties at the village-gate gossip station had plenty of complaints about me, the "package maniac," at first.
Later though...
I followed the principle of "if you can't beat them, join them," and successfully infiltrated.
Snacks I bought, shared! Viral milk tea, my treat!
As for the few sharp tongues? Goat cheese paired with unsweetened dry yogurt, handed over with a sweet smile.
"Auntie, try this. Super popular in the city!"
One bite and the other side went straight to "ugh..."
After a few rounds, my image upgraded successfully from "wasteful wife" to "pretty kind-hearted little fairy."
