EPILOGUE
Mari
Two years later
Smiling, I hang my clipboard on the little hook that Fletch put next to my desk—exactly where I wanted it. He took care of every little detail in the new office he built in one of the old cabins he remodeled.
In the other room, my sister is on a video call. Her voice is light. She’s even laughing. This makes my chest even warmer.
The screen door latch clicks and the alarm beeps. There’s no need to worry about Clark anymore after Fletch and the men scared him out of town, but my overprotective husband puts alarms and cameras everywhere to make sure.
Fletch steps inside and gives me a heated look. “Settled in, sweetheart?”
“Almost. Just a few more files to put away. Whew. It’s taken me two days to get everything unpacked.”
He comes around the desk and corners me. I used to be nervous about getting cornered—now I hold still and wait for my husband to crowd me. Because only good things happen when he does.
“You wanna take a break?” he whispers against my ear, as his hand slides under my leather cut that says Property of Fletch. As if anyone didn’t know I was his.
“Mmm…” I hum when he slips his fingers under my T-shirt, beneath my bra and teases my nipple.
“We still need to break in this desk,” he says in that voice that ruins me.
“After hours. Cassie’s in a meeting.”
He chuckles, his eyes crinkled because we’ve broken furniture. The bed. A chair. The kitchen table. Maybe the desk is next.
But instead of teasing me more, his hand slides down to take hold of mine. “I need to show you something.”
“Ooh. This sounds interesting.”
He loads me into a side-by-side and shoots off like he always does—too much throttle.
Laughing, I death-grip my seat. When he rounds the corner past the clubhouse there’s a big cleared spot of land by the back of the property that I’ve never seen before. There were trees there the last time I came this way.
“Wait,” I say. “Are we building something else because I didn’t order any materials?”
Fletch pulls out his phone. When he shows me a photo, he waits on my reaction.
This doesn’t look like a dorm the club talked about building. “What is that?”
“A sketch of our new house.”
I sit up straight, looking between the cleared land and my husband’s face with my pulse flying. “A house…”
“With lots of bedrooms.” He pulls me close, nosing against my ear. “Because we’re gonna need a nursery.”
I almost fall out of the seat. “We are?”
“I’m throwing away your pills tonight if you’re ready.”
“Fletch—” I breathe. “Are you sure? I know you were worried about club life.”
“I love you. Things are a little crazy around the club, but I want us to start a family right here. We’ll make it work.”
I crawl into his lap, taking his scruffy face into my hands. “I love you. Yes. I’m ready. Now can we take the trail to the overlook? Because I think we need to practice.”
